For those who installed Illuminas with Teins

I am installing Illuminas with Tein H-techs tonite. I know, I would have to trim my bumpstops about an inch. Is there anything special I need to know about this setup, so I won't run into any surprises during the install?

no surpises at all for me when i did mine. i took the bumpstop out of the dustboot and cut off an inch off the bottom of the bumpstop. however, i only cut the front and did not cut the rears. it handles and rides great.

the bottom, or top?
You're suppose to cut off the hard rubber on top aren't you?

uh, i didnt. i took out the bumpstop. it was that pale looking hard piece inside the dustboot. i then cut an inch off the bottom of it. i figured when the strut and spring compressed you would want the bottom portion removed since the top part would still keep the same shape as the dustboot and it would fit better(like stock) into the plate below the top hat.

edit - i didnt cut the dustboot at all. you can take the bumpstop out of the front ones but for the rears i believe they are all one piece because i could not remove the bumpstop out of the dustboot.

I didn't have the insert inside my dustboot you guys have mentioned. Not sure if it fell out and I didn't pay attention or what? I understood that the bumpstop was the hard rubber section at the top of the dustboot and trimmed accordingly. Others have done this as well.

Shots of what I trimmed are here: http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/strut_install.html

Just take your time installing them. You shouldn't run into any problems. Make sure you put the top hat the right way.

to me it looked like you cut part of the dustboot from your pictures. i know from the new dustboots that i received from Dave Burnette, that you can pull the bumpstop out of the dustboot so you dont have to cut the dustboot at all and lose the shape of the boot at the top and lose some type of seal. the bump stomp is what causes the dustboot to be so hard at the top. for the fronts they are two complete pieces and you can pull out the bumpstop but the rears are one complete piece.

so the only thing i cut was an inch off the bottom of that pale looking piece inside of the dustboot which is the bumpstop. that way the dustboot will seal better with the plate.

it cost me $70 from Dave for all 4. they come together when you order them. you can just separate the fronts so you can cut them.
