Check Engine Light....
Let me be the first to welcome you to the board.
Now let me also be the first to flame you, Is this the first car you have ever owned? I take it you've never got a check engine light?
You dont just turn it off because its annoying. You get it checked out and see what the problem is before just assuming it a lightbulb that turned on and needs to be switched off. Why not just remove the bulb then like I have done?
Get the code pulled from an Autozone and then come back here with the information.

engine light
I think that I can help. I just had the same thing happen to me recently. Ho ahead and have it checked out because it might be a problem that you need to have fixed. With me, I needed a to have an oxygen sensor replaced, ($200.00). But if that is not the case then you might be using the wrong gas. Do you use the 91? If so, do you use it every time or do you go back and fourth between grades of fuel depending on your budget? My engine went right back on about two weeks after I had my sensor replaced and I just about freaked out. When I took it back to my mechanic he said that the code said "Mixed Grease/Oils". He said that these cars were made to run on 91 fuel because it is cleaner and gas milage is better. Use the top grade only gas maybe?...This is my advice. What do you think? Have you heard this before? Hopefully this can be of help to you.
You cannot just turn off the CEL (unless you just remove the light bulb...not a good idea). You have to fix whatever is the problem. Then if there is no longer a problem, the light will turn off. Just go to Autozone and ask them to read the code for you. It's free. Then you can find out what might be the problem before taking it in or fixing it yourself.
