LED Door Mirrors-Help!

I have been looking at these for quite a while now and am not impressed with the covers that we can get. They look too bulky and although I have not seen them in person, the paint doesn't seem to match.

I have been considering trying to find some off of another car that comes stock with them, like a Mercedes and retrofitting them on in place of my originals. They have generally the same shape and attach in the same area on the door. What does everyone think? Is this possible? Too much trouble?

Am I being too critical of the aftermarket covers that we can buy? Let me know. Thanks

Just curious-if the color for the ones made for Maximas doesn't match, would a mirror from a Mercedes match any better? I do see how the ones available look bulky, though. I just want to make sure you've fully considered the color match issues.

Good point, I had thought of that but I guess I was more concerned with the overall look of them. My plan was to get some black ones and then have them painted to match once I had the money. The previous owner of my Max put quite a few rock chips in the hood so I am either going to buy a CF hood or have it repainted, I figured I would have them painted at the same time.

..Does anyone have any close-up pictures of the front/back of the LED mirrors mounted on a Maxima to see how they look like??

Also, these are "covers" (as alot of you have put it).. my sense of the word 'covers' means they just stick over the stock mirror housing with double sided tape? or do we remove the back of the mirror housing and "replace" them with the new LED covers? Can someone confirm this, as the first post by RYANEL mentioned that they were too bulky..

..cool. Thanks CustommaximaSE!. Any chance you (or anyone else) have a pic of them mounted on the mirror?

Anyone know, would it help with condensation if you lube the whole backside of the LEDs with silicon before the install??

Good luck with the install next week. Definitely do keep us posted on the results! *any chance you might have a "How-to" on the install?* I'd like to know which wire we splice into for the signals..

CustommaximaSE, have you ever thought about water seepage or condensation between the mirror housing and cover? Would this pose any possible problems down the road?

********, explain to me how they can fog up?

Its a solid piece of plastic with the surface mount LEDs that are molded into it. Explain to me how water/moisture gets into a solid piece of plastic.

This i want to hear.

They have there led covers foged ,because they have crack on them and there is an opening between the leds plactic moldding and the cover.

The pics will explain.

And this holes need to be filled with silicone.

CustommaximaSE,

Thanks for sharing the pics! ... Wondering though.. why would we need to fill the 'holes' in ..? Do they lead to the back sides of the LEDs? will it make a difference with water seepage?

(By the way, the look GOOD.....) !!

I'm going to fill the holes so they don't fog up ,just in case .And no they don't lead to the back side of the leds.

CustommaximaSE,

Will you be going thru the firewall when you thread the wires to the engine bay?

Post pics of the final product when you get a chance.
