loss of power in a 2000 SE

2000 SE auto. when driving at normal speeds (using only a little throttle to maintain speed) the car begins to lose power and shake. It feels like a misfire or if the car had a carburator I'd say it was "loading up" because it was jetted incorrectly. But the tac is solid with no RPM fluctuations. When I floor it, the car begins to run better and then seems to be fine. There is also a sulphur smell associated with it running pourly. This problem doesn't happen all the time so it is maddening to figure out. And it only seems to happen if the car is in drive. If it is in neutral or park the car seems to rev perfectly.

There can alse be a similar rough running when the car is first started.

The sulphur smell would indicate a blocked cat but I'm searching for answers so pls help guys.

Maybe you need to replace your MAF sensor. A few weeks ago my car seemed to lose power, so I replace the MAF sensor and afterwards the car drives like a millions bucks.

if you have check engine light then get the code pulled. most likely the misfiring will cause the cel to come on and the typical cause is the coil(s). 2k's and early build 2k1's have a very high failure rate.

In terms of power loss, there is a good chance that it is your MAF. I'm not too sure about the smell however.

My car had significant throttle loss with 50-75% throttle with my old MAF. When I floored it, it was less significant. Your car might be running lean.

With my new MAF, it runs perfectly.
