Remote Start a 2k2/2k3

My friend recently installed a remote starter into his 2003 Maxima. He had to shave off his valet key and leave it inside the steering column (so the car would think the key is in the ignition). The only problem is that when he remote starts, the stereo does not turn on. All of the other accessories like HVAC work.

To anyone who has installed a remote starter, how do you wire in the stereo to start with the car?

hmm...now that's really confusing. i mean i have RS on my car and when it turns on, everything is on...and it's not cause i wired everything. it's simply cause the car is on. if hte car is on, all accessories are on because of the power flow. my question would not be whether someone wired the stereo into the alarm, but if the stereo itself is wired correctly into the car. i would go as far as to test the main power wire for the radio and also the remote turn on wire to the radio. the power wire provides constant power, which holds all memory (stations, etc...) and the turn on wire is a small voltage that just tells the radio to turn on. for some very weird reason, that turn on wire is not energizing.

and as i'm writing this, i'm thinking, what wire is that turn on wire. is it using the stock radio wire. did soemone possibly wire that to something else that doesn't energize while in RS mode. i would do a voltage test on the turn on wire, when on manually and when on during remote start.

What does it mean to "leave the valet key in the ignition"? Does that make it easier to steal the car? Does a remote starter make it easier to steal?

I think there is a white/blue (second acc) wire that controls the radio which needs to be powered while in RS according to the wire diagram.
You need to verify/test it though.
