Impressions on stock air intake v.s. injen not so cai...

I went back to the stock air intake from the injen until I can relocate the filter somewhere other than next to the radiator. The first thing I noticed was the low end torque was back(welcome) but the throttle wasn't quite as responsive. The first time I layed into it with the stock setup I noticed that it doesn't pull as hard above 4,500rpm's and it's way too quiet. For normal driving I prefer the stock setup. If I really want to sound rude and turn heads I like the injen. Another thing that I noticed was my car seems to accelerate quicker to 45-50 with the stock setup. I was planning on relocating the filter down a little and a little closer to the driver's side tire and trimming the rock/splash guard. I scratched this because of concerns of dirt, mud & water getting into the filter. Has anyone done something with the location of the injen filter yet?

Dave, I would be interested in learning how you make out with this as I have the Injen intake now. I also believe that the location of the filter is not the ideal place and would prefer to have mine mounted behind the battery where the stock air filter sat.
If I can not palce it there then I will buy another brand (maybe the Apexi) to reduce this darn irritating whistling noise.

I did the same recently. In normal driving, you don't really get much more out of the Injen compared to stock...esp with the loss of low end torque. And, I have to agree that it appears to accelerate quicker with the stock setup at times...go figure. But, the sound you get with the Injen when you step on it is amazing! I guess there's a choice, better low end torque and less up top with the stock intake and better top end with the Injen. I can live with the better low end torque...at least during the summer heat.

One thing you need to be careful with in making your own intake, and what sounds like a longer pipe. There is a point at which you will begin to lose HP because the length the intake is too long. You want to keep it as short as possible and with the least amount of bends as possible. That is where the lack in throttle response comes from, is a long intake(that is why there is better power low end with stock as well as short ram). Just some Food For Thought.

I have a Berk w/ midpipe (wai) and have been pleased, no low end loss, 1-2 mpg better and sounds sweet. Don't
know much about the Injen.
