Lubricating gas pedal/throttle cable

My gas pedal doesn't move smoothly, it seems to go in increments. I like the tension on my throttle cable, it's tight and responsive. Is there a way to get the accelerator to operate better by somehow lubricating the throttle cable?

I have heard graphite spray or white lithium grease being shot up in the throttle cable line hose did wonders. don't quote me on that though. may be a myth
