Code P0455 - Emissions Control System - Large Leak?!?!?
Code P0455 - Emissions Control System - Large Leak?!?!?
ok...no clue where this came from...i came back from miami and my SES light was on. just had it tested at autozone and came up with Code P0455. only problem is that the FSM does not have 455 listed. closest thing is 456 which is a small leak, which has to do with the fuel filler cap.
has anyone ever heard of code p0455 or know ANYTHING about this.
thanx.

Dude I just had the same problem and the dealer told me that three things had to be changed. The gas cap, carbon canister and a valve that plugs in the carbon canister. The carbon canister sits under the trunk on the drivers side almost in the rear corner. The parts prices were ( Gas cap $ 10, Carbon canister $180, and the valve that plugs into the canister was $85.) I just changed all of those today and no ses light so far. By the way I had the code 0455 and I think 01448 or 01488, one of those but both of those codes are emissions evaportation related. Hope that helps you out.

Here you go Polo. The ec.zip file is for you. I'll keep it up till you post that you've got it.

this must be one of those freak issues. it just happened outta nowhere. as AKOGAN said, it seems to be one of those 3 issues. i really don't have the tools to "test it" so it's either take it to the dealer for warranty service or try to replace the stuff myself. i'm THINKING of just replacing the fuel cap alone and seeing what happens, because when i do open the cap, i hear no pressure release.
what's odd is the ONLY work i've done on the car since this is install the FrankenCar exhaust. nothing else. hell,t he last thing i did before this was put my tv's on, which was in february.
in either case, time to start testing. thanx a lot bro.

I think DAVEB's fsm is for a 2k based on the year of his car. For the 2k2 this code seems very specific. DTC P0444, P0445 EVAP CANISTER PURGE VOLUME CONTROL SOLENOID
VALVE. Which means the ecu is seeing a problem with of some sort with this valve. Page EC-382 has info for testing without a consult. I also see there is a fuse in the circuit, I would check that 1st.
You could try a gas cap their cheap enough but I think it has something to do with this solenoid valve. I would think one of the following.
Blown fuse, cut wire/short to the solenoid or bad solenoid. That's why the 1st thing they want you to check is "harness continuity" to look for a blown fuse or a short.
You seem very skilled so you should be able to handle tis without a consult but if you don't want to mess with it or time is a problem I'd take the car in.

AKOGAN's reply makes the mose sense to me BTW. They tag all bases while getting the most cash from you when all you need is the valve. He had other codes as well so there may be more to his situation. If you end up doing this yourself I'm sure you know where to get these parts for less...
Either way all of this should be covered but the emissions warranty.
