Best paper ail filter?

I don't have an intake and was wondering what you guys think is the best paper air filter for my 03? I'm not considering a K&n.
How good is the oem one?

What's wrong with K&N. You like changing your filter all the time? You don't want the better gas mileage & hp that comes with the K&N? Too expensive? Trust me, its worth it in the long run. I had a K&N stock replacement in my last two cars and never had any problems.

Well, I'm just not a k&n fan. i mean if your letting more air in then your letting more dirt in right?

Also, even if i do gain 1-2 horsepower, are you really going to feel it? Then I might gain a tad more mpg, big deal. I mean 10-15 bucks for a paper filter that filters better i think is worth it.
If i was racing I might consider a k&n but for normal street use nah,
jus my 2 cents, flame on.

Nothing to flame... I'm just offering my insight from past experience. Since the filters are oiled they actually trap more dirt than standard filters. You will gain more than 1-2 hp... not enough to go drag racing but you should notice a better throttle response. I think I gained like 4 mpg with the drop-in, which on an 18.5 tank is another 74 miles... nothing to scoff at with gas prices these days.

Nissan OEM is best paper air filter for our car and the filter is about 10 bucks. I know it filter out very good since I see alot of dirt after 10K of normal driving.

Even with the oil, if its letting more air in that means more dirt, at least thats the info i'm getting from bobistheoilguy.com web site.

yep. K&N still let in more dirt due to the wet/oil filter type. There was an experiment where they simulated various fiter types, on the end of a vacuum cleaner and they put in a sheet of clean white material downstream, to see how much dirt the filter didnt trap. K&N was one of the better performers, however it still let in a good amount of dirt.

You will absolutely not gain more than 1-2hp with a K&N drop in and it's ludicrous to think a K&N filter will stop more dirt than a paper filter would. K&N filters let quite a bit of dirt in. If you go to their website you will see that their standardized test is a different number than the others use. That's because the test they use allows for bigger particle sizes.

To answer your question the Nissan OEM filter is the best paper filter available.

I'm completely with you on this one. Good filtration is the key to long engine life. Use a K&N and just count the miles until you're burning oil from all that dirt getting in . . .

K&N filters and other oiled filters can cause a lot of issues with your MAF because of the oil.
