I'm not sure of all the makes of intakes out there so I need some feedback. What is the absolute cheapest intake out there that replaces all the piping up to the throttle body (except custom)? To me, there's no difference between intakes (i won't notice or care to notice a 2-3hp difference between brand x and brand y)....I want to open up some of the engine bay and add more flow into the intake. Anyone have experiences with intakes ???

Welp......

Cold air intakes are said to be the best gain but cost a little under or above 200. Also...you COULD but not really proven suck in water.

I got my generic intake from Maximum Velocity Motorsports(210-682-1100) I paid like 50 bucks plus shipping and got a generic cone and the MAF adapter. I did not come with any support bracket. Mine kinda rests on the metal wall on my vg but I put some foam around the frame to hold it in. Contrary to what people will say....this MAF plate DOES come with a velocity stack the way Jim Wolfs does. It DOES funnel the air into the maf area. The cone is actauly a double type cone...filter element in the center(hard to describe). The cone is a generic(fake) K and N.

Jim wolf. 100 from courtesy nissan. Fake K and N and velocity stack adapter.

Stillen: Real k and N. 180. Jim wolf adapter plate.

The gains of the last 3 are probably all the same. No more than 5-7hp. The cai would probably give more gains but you also have to cut a hole in your car.....not fun.

I have the same intake...

as Mike S. Mine, however, came with a support bracket but I am also using foam around the frame to hold it.
Speak with Tim Lee @ Maximum Velocity Motorsports(210-682-1100)
I think the price went up ever so slighty(~$5), but it's probably still the cheapest intake out there on the market (non-custom you buffoons).
And best of all, it's available in a variety of colors...I have the polished/chrome.

I have Stillen Hi-Flow...I paid about $160 for it and it came with everything and took about 10 minutes to put on...there's not a huge power gain but it sounds sooo sweet. it gets better gas mileage now too. Hope that helps

I had the Stillen Hi-flow ($179) but recently switched to Place Racing CAI ($225) and love it. What I love about it are: the sound of the air being sucked in when you're stopped, the roar it gives out at WOT, and the power increase.

If you want more flow, go with the velocity stack version, but if you and more flow and power, PR CAI is your choice. Both kits come with all the hardware you need (excluding tools of course). Good luck with your decision.

yeah

gotta love the check engine light too huh???j/p

i suggest if you get a cai, don't remove teh splash guard pannelings, it'll keep some water outa the intake, and dirt.

Yeah, that stupid thing came back on again... I'll use GregP's diagram thingy to reset my ECU this time.

It also could be bad gas... here's the theory:
Bought gas at station A, got light
Bought gas at station B, no light
Bought gas again at station A, got light again

I see a pattern but don't know if it's correct.

Yes, cutting hole in the car wasn't fun at all. If you guys do get the CAI, use a 3.25" diameter drill saw thingy (not sure what it's called).

The cheap $50 intake.

Ok, about this cheapy intake, will it fit on my 2000 I30? (2000 Maxima). How/where do I get one? Is there a website? Is there a noticable difference in sound? (Good or Bad). Is there a noticable difference in power? How much, what's the "predicted" hp gain? And will it make my current stock ramair, airscoop thing obolete? Thanks guys.

Place Racing Number?

I've heard of place racing, but, me being in Vegas, don't get much of the inside knowledge of it all. I might just go for the best and not do the half-*** way of getting something done (even if it'll work just as well as a $60 intake). My friend paid much more for his intake on his =X focus. $225 shipped? Velocity stack version cost? etc? Phone number for place racing?

What's up lil bro...?

Since I know your driving habits, I'd say get the PR CAI. You'll like the cone intake sounds, but not much performance is gained (couldn't you just take off the stock intake cover for the same effect?). The CAI is the best solution and gives you the best gains. Since you guys rarely get rain (& maybe the occasional yearly flood) that intake should prove reliable enough. Just spend the $200 and get the good stuff.

How's the CRX? Or do you not want Maxima people to know that you're a hardcore Honda guy? Did you take the Max to the autoX yet?
