cai vs. wai

any benefits of a cold air intake over a regualar warm air one? i know that a cold air is supposed to get air from outside the engine bay? isnt there a risk of getting water in it?

That's a tough topic... most people seem to be pretty loyal to whatever they chose. I love my wai FrakenCar... but that's all I've ever done, so I can't offer up any opinions on the CAI version. From what I understand they're fairly equal. And despite the worry of water with a CAI I don't remember reading anyone on the board saying they ever sucked up water with their CAI. So it might be somewhat of a toss up. You'll probably get some fanboys on either side claiming one is "waaay better" than the other - just be weary of biased comments.

this is a very tough topic, but what i hera is that u lose more low end power w/ a cold air. i have a Berk WAI and i am very happy w/it.

the colder the air = the better!

and you DO NOT LOSE anything! no intake causes you to LOSS HP! i wish people would quit saying that. all air intakes only shift your powerband from often less low-end to more high-end power.

you have more choices with WAIs. only 1 or 2 companies like Place Racing make true CAIs. Stillen, Frankencar, Injen, Berk, Wolf, etc etc make WAIs. and don't forget about the GAB and OSCAI (see FAQ section or Search to find out what they are).

i think we are talking about such a minor difference...not sure that you would even notice on the butt dyno.

theortically a CAI is better...but like i said - its debatable HOW much better. personally, didn't make a difference to me. i just intalled an Injen WAI.

Are there any HP/Torque gains with either?

The only problem with any is the longer the intake tube, the less air velocity you get at the TB. I'll use maximaman777's example for you to test on your own. Get a straw (the longest you can find), and blow through it. Then, cut the straw in half and blow through it again. Which has more velocity?

CAI is the best because it gets air not from the engine bay. WAI could suck on very warm days because it will take HOT air from the engine bay since its located there. WAI is much cheaper and easier to install. I have a WAI right now and its nice and all but i loose low end torque which sucks.
