For auto Max owners , you ever notice...

...when you push the gas pedal half way down , it seems like the Max kicks down better and accelerates fatser than pushing the pedal all the way to the floor. I have an 02' , and i noticed that this morning on the highway when i had to pass a few cars.

It seems like when you push the gas pedal all the way down it seems you only are giving it more gas in the gear that the car is in.The car accelerates , but it seems not as fast as when you only push the pedal half way. Why is that and has anybody else noticed this?

Same thing here... why? I don't know. but I got used to it, and that way also I can kinda control when it downshifts.

Yes, i've noticed that as well. . . I've also noticed when u floor the car, it sits there for about a second and then shoots out like a bullet. I've noticed the same thing in my cousins maxima and as well as my friends maxima.

Yeah i had it done this January....My car is in peak running condition too. Its nothing major, but i just find it intresting when pushing the pedal half way down "it seems" like the car accelerates faster. Try it, you will see what i am talking about....
try going 45 or 65 mph then push the pedal half way you will see your max kick down and accelerate like a bat out of hell!

You should feel the difference when you manualy shift and push the pedal with the rpms to redline instead of going WOT.

In the 02-03' you feel a slight diffrence when you manually shift from D-3. But its hardly noticable to me....my girl swears that the car accelerates better when you shift it from D-3, but i can't really tell....

Like the previous person mentioned before , when you hit WOT , the car lags for a sec then takes off. Are cars (02'-03') have a electronic fly by wire gas pedal, there is no linkage. So its going to be diffrent from previous year Maximas.

I am wondering if Nissan mest up on the kick down mechanism, if they reversed it by accident or something, because there is dfinitely a diffrence when you have the pedal at half way then WOT on the automatics...

Same experience here. Under partial throttle (PT), my car feels mad quick but feels less so under WOT. My 13 y/o son even recommended that I make a couple of my 1/4 mile passes under PT just to test this theory.

I really wonder how the electronic throttle was programmed.

If you don't have a VQ35 powered 2002-2003 Maxima, then you need not worry about the TSB...

i got the TSB done, and when I floor the car... i can feel like there is more punch to it. To me there are always on and off days for your car. Sometimes you feel your car is performing the way it should and some days its just not up to your standard and there isnt anything wrong with it..... IMHO

My dealer (Acme Nissan of Monmouth Jct, NJ) is guilty of the same. Then again, my dealer had no regard for the 2k2/3 Maxima owners who had their HIDs stolen right off their lot, until CBS TV's 'Shame on You' made them an inductee in their Hall of Shame.

I guess your right, i guess are cars are like humans, like when i bench press for max weight. Sometimes i'll hit 300lbs ,sometimes i can only lift 285 depending how i feel. 15 pounds diffrence go figure... What you said makes sense......

kinda off topic..... but i thought of this when rafe replied....

quoted from a good friend of mine " i rather have a car than a girl, why?, because you can drive it anyway you want, it never complains, and if you are bored with it, you can just trade it in for something better."

yes again, i agree that cars are like humans.. hahaha

i feel the same thing....could this be because of the ECU...

because like technosquare found out as you approach WOT the ECU actually starts to close the throttle body to disencourage hitting the redline???

Well, I pick up my 2002 tomorrow, but when I had my '96, it did the same thing. It sped up a lot slower when I floored it or came close to. If I wanted to fly by someone, sometimes it would barely speed up, so I had to take my foot off the pedal and then put it about half way or so. There would be that split second of still movement, then a huge burst of speed and the rpm would be around 5500-6000.

Happens with me too. The best thing to do is to PT (pedal half-way down) and calmly press down until you reach WOT.

Mine had the same problem to. Alot of times you would nail it and the car kinda paused for a sec like it didn't know what to do then take off. I noticed that everytime I cleared the computer it would run good and shift quick, but go back to slow downshifts after a couple of weeks. Funny thing is my battery started crapping out a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a optima red top, 900 CCA battery. The car runs flawless! Now punching from a dead stop, I spin all the way through first and still spinning going into second. I thought it was odd, but a mechanic friend of mine said that because there are so many electronics on cars today, any voltage drops affect performance. Since you have a computer solely for the tranny you might want to check your battery. Go figure?
