Changing Shift ****

Sorry if this is a repost, I went through 15 pages of previous threads and foud nothing...

I'd like to change my Manual shift **** on my 2k1 SE, is there a write up for that? I have a new **** ready to go, but no instructions, and I don't want to destroy the old one...

Do I just twist it off, is there a bolt? What about the boot?

To take the **** off just twist counterclockwise. It's very tight the first time, I wrapped a rag around it and used a vise-grip pliars to grip it....no damage to it if you wrap it up well so the teeth don't dig in.

As for the boot, you have to remove the center console shift housing assembly...the boot is attached with tabs and a large spring-clip-type-thingy on the underside. Piece of cake to do. To open the assembly, gently pry up with a flathead screwdriver under the edge of the shifter surround and it will pop right up. Oh you also have to remove the screw behind the ashtray as I recall.....

here you go....I have more pics of how to do this on my cardomain page, on page 15.....check it out
