Orange rear signals replaced with red....

Didn't like the orange, since they don't match my rear side markers which are wired to flash....soooo.....put in some red ones.

The verdict: well, they flash red (not pink)....obviously since they flash through a clear lens they are not quite as red as the taillights, but I think they look good. Here's a bad pic, as you can see, pretty much the same shade of red as the taillights....the time-exposure shot shows more orange, but believe me, it actually flashes pure red. You can see the redness of the bulbs in the pics below it.....

Great that you found some that actually light up red and not pink. That's why I have amber in mine. Where'd you get them? Have you thought of spraying them with a light coat of silver so they don't show the red through your clear lens?

Actually, I did! I bought 2 sets of the bulbs....I painted the first set silver (like my amber ones were before) but found that it really cut down light output - could hardly see them flash in the day. The set I have in right now have only the top 1" painted silver, so they just reflect "a little" red through the clear lens but still have good light output.

I got the bulbs at www.lightlens.com...there's a few different ones, I got the "normal" red ones.

funny you should stop by bluesbreker - I was just on your homepage. Not to change the subject of my own thread, but on a related subject - your side marker lenses - I have 2 questions:

1. are they the OEM lenses painted with smoke paint
2. does the reflector part still "reflect" at night (they have to here in Va.)

Great job you did, Irish. I was just looking at your old pictures and now it seems awesome! A n00b's $.02

And what happened with the Volvo gauges thing? Fell in love with those, I want to change mine too.

don't know....there was a loooooong thread on the volvo gauges where a few people looked into getting them made, but it never panned out unfortunately.....

once you get the mod bug, you can never stop toying with things, even if its just a stupid light bulb...then you paint them....it never ends!

well, at least light bulbs are cheap!

Veeeeeery very true, but you're forgetting the fact that I'm a girl and I've never changed bulbs on a car, so I can't get around going to the shop

Yes, I painted the OEM lenses with Nite Shades paint.

No, I don't believe they still reflect, but I'm not 100% sure. I never checked for that. I'm pretty sure that here in Wi. they would have to also.

if you guys want the full red effect get LED bulbs..

i have LED bulbs on my turn signals.. and its cool since you dont have to see that red tint.. and it only lights up when on... you get a really deep red look

Hey bluesbreaker - shine a flashlight on them tonight and tell me if they reflect, if you would! thanx.

jason (sooner) you can't really make fun of my job since we essentially do exactly the same thing....

Red turn signals look 10x better IMO.

Just did the flashlight thing and surprisingly, there is some reflection through the tint paint. Not nearly as much as without it, but there's maybe 40 50% of OEM. The other thing is that my tinted amber front corners reflect more red than amber...weird...
