Just wondering what differences this will make. I'm thinking of doing this but wasn't sure of the results. How much will it cost? Should I do it?
Thanx....

It'll make your car louder, that's for sure.

I just replaced my resonator with a straight pipe and my stock muffler with a Magnaflow yesterday. The exhaust finally sounds like it should. The only thing is that the exhaust system wants to go into resonance between 1700-2500 rpm (basically, the exhaust is loudest at that rpm range). The new exhaust is nearly unnoticeable at highway cruising speeds. I am planning to post an Mpeg of the sound latter today.

The resonator replacement pipe cost me $40 installed.

just make sure you will be able to put on your exhaust soon after. I took of my muffler and resonator all at once and boy was it loud! It actually hurts your ears.

I had the Y-pipe and a universal straight through muffler. The sound was nice.

Took out the resonator... it was toooooooo looouuddddd. Way too loud for a sedan. So, i had my stock muffler welded back on and it has a nice subtle growl...nearly perfect!

No resonator.

I did it 2 days ago as my first exhaust mod, and the difference is hardly noticeable. i can't wait to get my muffler. if i knew, i would just get the muffler, and if that's too quiet, then i'd remove the resonator.
btw, since then my idle drops to real low rpms, like it's gonna stall, and then it regains itself. i wonder how long it takes until it re-adjusts itself, or do i have to do something myself.
peace

Hmmm. That doesn't sound right. Removing your resonator should have no impact whatsoever on your idle. Something else is going on.

IDLE

WELL, REMOVING THE RESONATOR CHANGES THE BACK PRESSURE, SO IT MIGHT. AND THE CAR IDLES THE SAME, IT;S ONLY THAT WHEN I CHANGE IT TO NEUTRAL, AND RPMS DROP TO IDLE, THEY GO TOO LOW, AND THE CAR ALMOST STOLES AND THEN IT REGAINS, AND GOES BACK TO NORMAL (600RPMS).
PEACE

i took off my stock resonator before i got my exhaust done (now i have a resonator on again) and i liked the sound for awhile...then it got annoying...i only paid $25 to have it done...it drones at low rpms (1500-3000) and then at higher rpms you don't notice it at all...depends what you are looking for...it does give you a little more noise (gives quite a bit more on the inside than it does on the outside, though)...i looked around...the first place i went wanted $150 to do it (midas) and they claimed i had 3 mufflers on one pipe (the guy was talking out of his @$$)...then when i told him he was wrong he said "i've been working in this business for over 25 years...don't tell me what a muffler looks like"...so needless to say, i left midas...next i looked in the phonebook and found a little autoparts shop...they wanted $70 to do it so i said no to that...then i stopped at this place down in the ghetto...it had a spanish name and the people there didn't speak very good english...i had to show them what to cut off but they only charged me $25...they didn't even care if i watched them doing it or if i stood under the car...just go down to a bad neighborhood and go to a muffler shop...you should be able to get a good deal down there

What kind of 24" resonator are you using? Where did you get it? How much was it? I need to find one that will fit quick and that will not resonate inside my car with a straight through muffler (Magnaflow) installed.

Thanks.

my entire exhaust system was custom made by cattman...should be coming out for the public in awhile...i have a 2.5" mandrel bent pipe from the cat-back...towards the end of the pipe, i have a 24" resonator on the pipe (all 304 stainless) and after that, there is another small piece of piping and then my straight through custom muffler...sorry, but you can't really order this anywhere...i'm sure you can probably buy a resonator from a stock pipe and have it welded on

Did you disconnect the battery and let it be for several hours, then hook the battery back up? That should brain wash the computer and it will start over.
