Managed To Break 3 Keys

I managed to break 3 keys. As of right now my car is sitting on the street and I can't drive it. I spoke to one place and they said they can get a key for me and program it for $70.00. Does that seem fair or can I get a cheapter price?

I thought only the dealer can re/program keys? I don't think they let the place "down the street" have access to the technology...

Do a search on the topic (which you cant do) and you will realize that you need the consult computer to connect to the ECU so the key can be reprogrammed.

Nobody except a licensed dealership should have access to that.

I don't care whether the business it legit or not, but from the 10000 threads on key reprogramming over the years I do not reccal anyone getting it done anywhere else besides a dealership. So many people cannot be misinformed and you being right.

Nobody except the dealer should have the technology to program a car key.

If no one but the dealer had technology to program keys, locksmiths would be going out of business in a hurry!

The locksmith we use on our lot has been able to cut us keys for GM, Fords and a few other "chip key" cars. He has a little computer that plugs into the OBDII connector. I haven't asked if it will work on Nissans but it had no trouble with a Ford Explorer chip-key.
