Moving Shifter from Drive to 3rd

A simple question for everyone today....
if i'm traveling on the highway doing about 65 in Drive is there any ill effect on my transmission or my engine if i move the shifter from drive to 3rd or vice versa? and while doing that should i let off the gas? Thanks guys

There is no disruption in power supplied to the transmission. You would probably notice a surge if you down shifted at that speed.

well today i was testing out the drive to 3rd shift and theres plenty of power provided for passing and such which led me to drive more aggressive than i should. plus it drained the gas tank fairly quickly, so i will prolly just stick with driving normally. Gas is too expensive to mess around like that. besides i decided that i should baby Smurf and not beat up on her, i don't want to get into a accident or anything because of such aggressive behavior. thanks guys

i tend to leave the shifter in 3rd unless i'm on a free moving highway or just being lazy. having it in 3rd seems to control excessive shifting and provides better throttle response around town and in rush hour traffic, it's such a versatile gear and the engine is so smooth that sometimes i forget it's in third until i mash the pedal.

There is no more impact to the engine or tranny than if you downshifted by pressing down on the gas.

so if i were to leave it on 3rd it would shift the 1 and 2 normally? is that the same as if i were to leave it in 2, that it would go through 1st and then to 2nd but would upshift to 3rd?
sorry for all the questions. just tryna understand. i'm so misinformed

right.

it will go through all the gears, except 4th or OD.

also sorry to hijack, but why doesn't it start out in 2nd when it is put in 2? you'd think it would be beneficial in slippery conditions.
