I read 2-3 posts were people were haveing similar engine problems to what I am going thru. The recommendations were to clean the MAF. This is my question: What do you clean it with? What do you clean, the sensor, the housing, what? Please let me know. you guys rock!

unplug the connector on the maf. unscrew the 2 security torx bit and pull the entire black piece out. you will see a thin wire in the middle of the hole at the bottom. i used electrical parts cleaner since it will do the job and wont harm the plastic surrounding the wire. i gave it 2-3 good sprays and reinstalled. acceleration seemed less jerky but it still pulled the same. that was on the standard maf but i replaced it with the updated one.

i paid around $85 shipped from jerry rome nissan while they were having additional discounts on top of their 12% org discount. the wire for the maf is thicker along with an additional prong on top. i didnt notice much of a difference but my standard was not broken. i keep the standard one in the trunk just in case but i have not heard of any failures with the new maf.

home depot, lowes or any decent hardware store should carry it. my local advance auto carries them as well.

Do what sloppymax said. I use brake cleaner for both my max and S10 Crew Cab
and air dry it with an air compressor. This works great and it never gave me
any problems. Good luck

Mike

LOL.....so you are spraying your car with NOS and talking about playin with death??? LMAO!!!

BLACK2000 just go to Autozone and pick up some CRC electrical parts cleaner, and when you take out your MAF just spray it down all around, this CRC stuff is made for sensititive electronics and dries completely almost immediately upon contact. It worked great for me (mine was pretty dirty after 100k miles)
Good luck

I dont think so unless u r having some sort of problem....my car has 100k miles and the maf sensor had visible dirt accumulation all over it so it was obvious it needed some cleaning (plus I had naggin bog down problems that were cured by the cleaniing).
Nissan will tell u is not a serviceable part cause they want your $200 buxs to replace it.

Ha, shut the ***** up. I probably know more about nissan MAF's and why they fail than you ever will. No I dont spray nitrous on my 2002 maxima, please check your self. Ive been through more than 4 MAF's in different models, modified them and everything.

I'm not pushing serious power through mine, but I've probably cleaned mine at least 3 times... no problems. I only use Brake & Parts cleaner.

Actually, on that note... why do they fail?

I hear you... I just got the "Lack of Aceleration" TSB done in mine yesterday under warranty. The paperwork stated over $465 just for the new MAF and $45 for the ECU reprogramming. That MAF price is just ridiculous. I'm glad Nissan is paying for this one...

yeah but for you 2000 2001 drivers its different for 2k2 2k3 drivers. 2k2's suffer the most due to 2 poorly designed MAFs, which lead to a 3rd redesign and a ECU tsb.
