It was driving me crazy. Sounded like a pencil knocking around inside the console, so I took it apart.

One screw inside the console under the carpet.

One screw in the ashtray (pull the felt piece out).

One on driver and one on passenger.

And the final two screws, in front of the shifter but under the piece that holds the ashtray in. The ashtray and shifter surround are held in by four clips. Just use a flathead screwdriver and a towel to pry them up.

I think these were causing the noise. Wrapped in yellow foam is the plug for the rear power socket. Wrapped in black foam are the two power plugs for the seat heaters (should you choose to add that).

The only knocking sound I have in my center console area is the damn armrest. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I had it and I used small black felt pads anywhere there was plastic to plastic contact. It got rid of it.Originally Posted by MacAlert
