forum question about o2 sensor
forum question about o2 sensor
I have a 2002 auto se with 40,000. No warranty.
Two weeks ago I was on the highway coming back from Tampa Fla and the "service engine soon" light came on.... Took car to the dealer code showed
bad rear o2 sensors bad/not responding. Cost $638. Had no money.
Drove car from dealer with ses light on. Few days later no ses light.
Now, what happened ? What do I do now ? Have sensors replaced anyway ?
or did sensors start responding/working or did engine compensate?
What would you do ? Thanks in advance

well; your o2 sensors will mess with your power delivery, fuel economy, and have your engine running rich....it's bs how maxima's have such crappy sensors...anyways, due to my exremem distrust of nissan service techs, i'd go to autozone, have them run the codes again for free, then call call Dave B at Southpoint NIssan in Ausitn, TX. Order the 02 sensors from him and have an independent shop put them in. $600 is WAAAAYYYY to much.
Or, if you feel like taking on a task, remove you intake manifold, througly clean it and your throttle body (comes off in 1peice) so its perfectly clean. Then go ahead and pull/replace your spark plugs, since its about time to get new platinums or coppers. Then purchase o2 sensor tool at about 40 bucks, buy a o2 sensor from dave b. or Oxygensensors.com then change your own o2 sensor. Put everything back. Should take a 1st timer an afternoon, along with a 6 pack of beer. After that youv'e accomplished
New spark plugs
complete intake manifold/throttle body cleaning
new o2 sensor.
Your car should run great!

I used to pay $150 for an O2 sensor installed at the dealer on my old '95 altima. WTF are prices so high on maxima 02 sensors? Do places like sears or other discount chains sell the parts and labor for substantially cheaper and are the parts any more reliable than the nissan parts?
