Advancing timing

I have what I consider a good relationship with the service department of the dealership I go to. I asked the service advisor about the possibility of advancing the timing, and he said they tried setting it via Consult II a bit ago on another max, and the ECU kept resetting itself to the default setting. Since these guys usually don't blow smoke up my ****, I'm wondering whether they are simply not familiar with the procedure. Does anyone have documentation as to how the timing can be advanced? I'd like to take it over to them, and have them give it a shot.

thanks

they must be unfamiliar. i was able to use the consult 2 myself and simply followed the on screen prompts. my timing stuck and has stuck a little over a year now including a few times of disconnecting the battery for long periods. luckily, i had a nissan/infiniti specfic shop that purchased a consult 2 from the dealer.
