I would definitely buy one from the dealer. Keep in mind that you have to have the key programmed, because it is a transponder key. I'll bet that with the price you have stated the dealership quoted on the key includes programming. I work for a Toyota dealership and the total cost sounds about right...$55.00 for the key and $35 to have it programmed. All though you could just buy the key and program it yourself. Look on google.

get a ae key from ebay. then get it programmed from the dealer. that will be cheaper than buying the key from the dealer

Go to www.chipkeys.com get a blank, cut it at walmart, take it to Nissan dealer (you'll have to take all your keys) and get it programed.

Nice! I am in the same situation as cjden. I only have 1 key. I need to make a sprare. I think i'll buy it off ebay and cut it at sear's or something.

Anyone know how much nissan would charge for just programming the transponder key?

Another question i had is that my current key that i have will open the doors, start the engine, but it won't open the trunk. Apparently its not the master key, but nothing i can do about that. Anyone know how i can get my master key or somehow get a key to open the trunk without replacing the lock just incase my wiring stops working?

Using your VIN# the dealer can get a master key code and cut the master key for the vehicle.

I actually was going to make a topic about this but decided not to. I lost my main key last week somehow, it also had the key to my front door for when I didn't park in the garage. Since my car has lojack, I have to hit the unlock button everytime I open the doors, even if they are already unlocked. So, when it is in the garage, I either put the key on the side view mirror, or I roll the window down and put it there. My guess is that my sister who borrowed my car because her's was at the shop just took the spare from upstairs not realizing the main key was on the side view mirror and drove off. Anyway, I guess I know what the price will be for a new one now. I wouldn't care all the much and I would take my time in getting another one if it weren't for the fact that I couldn't use my car if I didn't have one of the remotes.(yes, even if I unlock it with the key, the alarm still goes off. And, even when I unlock the trunk from the remote, the alarm goes off unless I hit unlock first)

$90 @ the dealer....that doesn't come with the keyless remote does it? how much is that anyways.

anyone know if its easy to replace the batteries of the keyless remote cause i'm thinking mine should die soon..i use the remote like 15 times a day. multiply that by 4 years.

Beware of giving out so much detailed information about your car.

To open the remote get a penny or a dime. There should be an opening in the plastic where your key ring goes on the remote. Use said penny or dime to open the remote by inserting it in the slot and turning the coin until the remote pops open in half. Hope this helps.

DONT BUY ONE FROM THE STEALERSHIP. Get NVO chip keys and see what the dealer will charge to program them. It saved about $50 on the keys alone. And you cannot program the key yourself.

so can you get a key cut AND programmed at the dealer? If not then 1. Get the key online 2. cut at any hardware store ( just give them ur current key and tell em to cut it?) 3. dealership

That the way to go?

Most locksmiths can program it, too. Compare prices with the dealership.

Bought a transponder key for my 2002 off ebay for $15 including shipping. Called the dealer near me and stated that they will cut it and program it for about $25. They said it will take about 20-30 minutes for program.

i talked with the idiot @ the stealership, he told me about 120-130 for key to be cut and programmed. He said around $100 to be cut and programmed if i supplied the key. So i told him, $20 for the key? He said yes.

I asked him about making me a master key without me having one, he said its possible but he's not sure. I asked him to find out and he replied to bring the car in. They don't know jack @ the dealership. The ones i always talk with atleast.

You guys are only talking about the keys, but what about remotes too? Do you just not have them or something? I would never not want to have the keyless entry.

I ordered my AE key from Courtesy, and then called nissan to see how much it would cost to cut and program. The guy told me he'd do it for free since it only takes like 15 mins. Guess I was a lucky one!!
