MAF blown. Anyway around this?

A couple days ago, while pulling out of a parking lot my MAF blew (car started bucking, then began to run really rough, not being able to rev past 2300.) Is there any temporary fix for this? I have an SES light on- 2002 maxima, 36,400. (F**K, just 400 miles off!). Also, where is the best place to purchase the MAF sensor alone, w/o being stroked to shell out a few hundreds?

Thanks in advance all.
-Josh

Try the local junk yard or call Michaels in Orlando , he is pretty reasonable if he can get that part. MAFS are usually dealer item, unfortunately....
If you find a 2002 in one of Orlando's junk yards, PM me, i would like to get a few parts off of it.

Yes its compatable, check my sig for powerloss. I never got to the track before it blew. However I have made about 40 runs since I got the new MAF and no problems.

You may want to go to dealership and have it looked at. There is a good chance it is covered under the 60,000 mile standard powertrain warranty.

A temporary fix is to unplug the maf sensor. The car won't run like it should, but will run much better than it does with the bad maf sensor. I have had my maf go out twice and I have bought replacements from here: www.car-part.com When the new maf arrives, all you need is the sensor. It's just a matter of removing two screws. I paid about $100 including overnight delivery.

WTF. Seems to me like Nissan is trying to stroke me. I called them up at they said its only covered on 36/3yr warranty, and just the part (whole assembly I assume) was $488.68. I knew i could get it elsewhere, but damn. Also, i tried unplugging the Maf, and it still runs the same. (Wont rev past 2500, and stumbles getting there.)

Mine went not too long ago. IIRC, the MAF sensor is around $110. My dealer told me that replacing it meant reprogramming the computer. The guys at the parts counter told me the same. My dealer agreed that it was part of the emission control system and would handle it as such. They then found my aftermarket air filter and claimed that it didn't seal as well as the OEM filter and let dirt past, which ruined the sensor. Long story short, warranty claim denied. Is the emission warranty 5/50 still?

MAF belongs to Engine and Emission Control System according to Nissan FSM. Your car is in "limp mode" - I got the same recently, won't rev above 2400 RPM. Prices on MAFs vary to say the least: 83 - 400+. Dave B is the guy!
