Intakes

What are the ups and downs of a CAI? What are the ups and downs of normal intakes?

I am a big opponent of the intake. I feel it's a waste of money to put an intake on the car. The power gains are minimal, and with the Max having such a problem with the MAF sensor I wouldn't recommend the intake. The engineers at nissan did a great job with the stock intake. Intakes are loud and obnoxious. With the CAIs you have to drill a hole in your fender well, and with a short intake you are sucking warmer air into the engine than if you would use the stock intake. The only upside to an intake is slightly improved gas mileage...my .02 cents

If the noise bothers you then you won't like pretty much any engine mod out there for the Max.

I haven't seen a significantly higher number of MAF failures with our intakes than 100% stock.

Our intakes will make more power over stock and pay for itself in better gas milage in the first year of use.

Check out the sale that we are having right now. You can't beat the price for a real K&N intake system.

IMO, Air intakes only benefit if you are driving at midrange and WOT throttle, Like with a stick shift. I have a automatic 02 and I had an Injen , great at top end but at low rpms and stop and go there is a slight hesitation. I had changed to a Stillen short intake, little better on low end torque, but I still had the same inherant problem when going from a stop to wide open on my auto. The shift from first to second the trans would slip real bad. I am pretty sure its the intakes, becuse after reinstalling the stock setup tranny shifts fine. I had come up with a GAB intake install of my own. I have the stock intake , but replaced the resonator box at the throttle body with a berk ent. midpipe attached to the stock air box with k&n panel filter. and where the inlet snorkle is sandwiched between the hood and radiator support I had fabed up a wind deflector out of carbon fibre to direct air into scoop from grill. I do not know how to post pics , but can send you pics of my setup. hope this helps

Intakes are overrated. One of the reasons why i have kept my stock airbox in my 02 maxima.
With MAF / Tranny problems, do you really want to excelerate these issues by adding a aftermarket intake?

Second, with bad MAF's your $200 intake will end up costing you $100 more every 2 months or so.

Keep it stock, pay 10$ for a OEM nissan stock filter at your local dealer every 10,000 to 15,000 miles and enjoy your quiet.

add subwoofers if you would like to add noise
