i am looking for a new maxima...2003 or 2003. i wanted blk on blk, but i have found a pretty good deal on a charcoal on blk, but it is a GLE...i wanted an SE. i love my 96 SE and one of my favorite parts is the white dials

can you and how hard is it to put the SE dials in a GLE....and where could i get some if i wanted to do this?

also, what are the main differences in a SE and GLE....i guess i should know that first--i awlays thought it was suspention...any other differences?

not sure. . unless u go with white indiglo gauges for 2k2-2k3 white with blue numbers. they glow blue or green when on.

 

man, grey lustre (charcoal) is NICE, and with black interior, u can't go wrong there at all..

about the gauges, you should be able to swap out your GLE gauge cluster (black faced) for teh SE gauge cluster (white face). you can look on ebay under hte search term "02-03 maxima cluster"

or if u want, u can go with just buying reverse indiglo overlays. a little bit ricier in my opinion, but a lot more easier to find on the 'net.

as far as main differences between GLE and SE..
it depends on what options each comes with.

generally, u'll find the SE lacking the automatic climate control, leather seats, heated seats, etc. but it will have body colored door handles, those white gauges, a spoiler, a stiffer suspension, and may even have the highly sought after 6 speed manual transmission

those are just a few of the differences..

 

If I remember correctly someone was selling the se cluster in the 5th gen. classifieds.

The 02-03 SE's come only with the titanium tinted gauges. Unless you're talking about putting an 00-01 SE gauge cluster in.

 

i know the 00-01's are diff. there is someone selling parts from an 02 and polo is selling an 03 cluster if you go on to the second page...unless they are sold already.

 

I dont think he would want those as they dont have the Trip Computer slot, but I do miss the Blue that surrounded the gauges.

 

What blue around the gauges?

 

The 00-01 SE's had blue on the outer edge of the gauges along with an italic font that made them more "special" then the more mundane GXE/GLE gauges.

I have changed my gauges fron gxe to se on a2k max. I bought it at a junkyard for 100.the 00/01 are differant then 02 and up. i changed the overlay you have to pull the needles but its not to hard.If you ae going to swap the whole thing out the milage will of course is a big no no.just make sure you get the samething ie. auto,abs and traction control

 

I remember reading a long time ago about a way to swap out the odometer electronics in addition to the white gauges. It can be done. Not sure if it can still be searched on the threads (maybe about a year ago). Maybe someone can post who has done it.

It is possible to swap out the odomoeter boards on some of the 00's and 01's. They had screw sets that enabled them to be interchanged. Well Nissan got wise to this and soldered the boards in place. So anything from a certain time of year in the 01 model and beyond cannot be changed. You are stuck with the mileage in the odometer on those gauges.

I swapped out my GLE for the SE. Luckily the SE gauges had more miles than my odometer so I just waited until I got up to that mileage and swapped out the gauges. I was playing it safe...I do not know if the mileage is stored in the ECU.

If you can find an SE cluster, check the mileage and see if you can do what I did. May be your best bet. Oh and here is a pic of my gauges...
