Rotor problems, warped?
I have noticed lately that after applying brakes at 50 or 60 mph there is a vibration. At slower speeds there is less. Does this mean the rotors are warped ? Is it time for new rotors after 70 k ?

take it to a local mechanic (NOT a brake shop) and have them turn the rotors. It should run around $20 per wheel. With low mileage there is no need to worry about pads or anything else. It's a quick fix and can happen to any car with disc brakes.
My wife drive a Toyota with 70K and it did the same thing. Our mechanic who is as honest as the day is long gave the rotors a quick turn and it drives like a new car.

since you guys are relatively new, I'll give you the heads-up: this problem is widespread and has happened to a large % of 5th gen maxima owners (I mean, like almost ALL of us...).
I actually asked the shop manager at my local Nissan dealer if he sees it alot and his response was "yeah, on every 5th gen maxima" (no ****).
YOu can turn the rotors and they'll be ok for a little while, but it WILL happen again. The 10.6" OEM rotor size is simply too small and too thin for the weight of our 3300 lb maximas.
Many on the org have either upgraded to true "big brake kits" (which are $$ and require 18"+ rims usually) or the BlehmCo BBK, which uses the 2004 maxima rotors and fits under our OEM 17's. If you're running 16" rims, sorry you're out of luck.
As to rotors - many have tried various aftermarket rotors such as Brembo (blanks, slotted, or drilled), frozen rotors, iRotors, etc...) with mixed results.
and yes Jeff, it CAN happen to any car with disc brakes, but the Maxima is NOTORIOUS for it....I had combined 300,000+ miles on my Acura and my Honda and never once had the rotors warp (in fact, I never once had to even have them turned for any reason)...
The nissan tech told me that this is even begining to happen on the 6th gens! Nissan just can't design a decent rotor apparently.
I'm just telling you this so you are prepared and don't get TOO frustrated when it happens over and over again....one of the small annoyances of our otherwise excellent cars...
