hey guys,

the service guy called me and said that they ran it and had no problems with it (yeahright)... BUT, they were nice enough to talk to the factory and found out that they needed to change the solenoid on it. is that ALL they have to change? is there a chance if they took apart the motor that they would see all the nice little metal flakes in the pan and realise that they might have to change the whole tranny? (hope so... slippage sucks.)

sux thing is that the parts are on backorder and the guy doesn't know when it's gonna come in. should i just leave it at the service dept until the part comes in or pick up my car and wait until he calls?

All they have to do is take off the tranny oil pan to see metal flakes. Getting new solenoids are great, but also push for the new TCM (version 2) if you can.

Really hard to do because they most likely will say the solenoid swap fixed all the problems. I have no real suggestions this time.

You can "hint" to them that there is a new TCM. Maybe you'll strike up a nice conversation and gradually "hint" to them that you want it replaced also. No guarantees that this would work, but it's worth a shot.

I'm not Keving but I'll answer. I just pointed out the fact that there have been two revisions so they had to have changed them for a reason plus I had to go to the dealer 5 times before they were able to find the problem.

My Maxima originally came with the 'newer' TCM. There is later version of this newer TCM that is referenced in the later TSB. Does anyone know the difference between these two TCMs? I never had the old 100 model TCM, so I really don't know. There are three models: the 100, 101, and then 160. I have the 101 and the new shift solenoids....shifting seems to be fine for me....
