HIDs and retrofitting in 2K1

My friend rearended someone and both headlight housing were damaged and he got whole new assemblys from the insurance. My question is would the 2k2 bulb fit in a 2k1 housing easily? Would it be hard to make it fit? I also have the projector style on my car now as another option to try.

Is it worth it? Trying to make them fit if they are different? They are free so, well I may need to replace a bulb but it's still better then 350.

The bulb itself has to be powered by the ignitor and ballast. You cannot just pop it into your headlight unit and call it a day. You have to do a full conversion and you will lose your high-beams if you do.

(You can avoid losing your high-beam by getting a bi-xenon HID kit)

Yeah I know that, the new housings came with the new ballasts and ignitors. SO I can get them too.

My question is will the bulb fit in the h4 or h3 opening in the stock 2k1 housing or even better the projector housings I have currently on my car.

Thanx
Robert

Oh yeah. I'm pretty sure they'll fit. Dozens of people have done the mod here and I'm about to do it too. It's a plug and play operation -- takes no longer than 30-40 minutes to do.

Do you know what size the 2k2 bulb is considered or what it is equivalent to in halogen style?

well i dont think it will just fit very quickly....plug and play is not really the case....you'll have to find a way to secure the HID bulb in the socket of the H4...they are not the same. Also the projectors that you currently have run h3 bulbs, too small for the HID bulb, plus it is not a projector headlight. if you do get them in youll have a lot of glare than actual lighting on the streets, plus youll be blinding people in front of you and cops may pull you over since it may seem like your using your highs at everyone. there was a HUGE thread a few months ago on how to swap out the projetors in those to HID projectors, but youll have to find it some place and read like 10 pages or so of threads. lol good luck.

d2r i think is the model. there is not equal in halogen, that's why they are HIDS...bulbs out there will look like they are as bright but the actually lum will not be equal. unless your just talkin about Kelvin...then you could get any piaa hyper white bulbs with about 4500K around there....but like i said not as bright as HIDs....

I was thinking of some how fitting the hid bulb in the high beam of the projector. So the there is no way to make the d2r bulb fit in an h3 opening?

It can be done, but you would have to do some retrofitting. If you choose this route then you would create a lot of glare and you would have to splice the wires in your harness to connect them to the ballast. Since they are free though you can try it out and see what happenes.

Now what to do, I really don't want to cutup the new projectors and from what UCI says they will fit the stock housing without cutting. So HIDs with stockers or the nice looking projectors???

Actually it would not be a direct fit into the stock housings, but you wouldnt have to make a bigger hole like you would with the projectors. If you really want to use the free hid's then i suggest the stock because it would be less of a pain and if you would ever want to remove the kit you could replace it with a regular bulb but once you make a bigger hole on the projector headlamps there is no going back.
