Whining noises when wheels are turned to the extremities, what is it?

2001 auto, when i am in a parking lot or a somehting where i slowly move around, when i turn the wheels t the extreamities there is a bit of squeeling that goes on. it sounds like a belt but i am not sure, and would like to know what it is. i am tired of having the car sound like pigs are in my fenders!

My guess is one of 2 things. First, you may be low on Power steering fluid, check the reservoir to make sure. Second you should never lock the steering wheel all the way left or right it puts a heavy strain on the power steering rack and can cause damage. Finally check the belt for slippage.

Just my 2¢

I got the same problem, but its more of a groaning noise in either left or right turn. PS fluid looks good, and i am not talking about FULL Lock to lock, i am talking about maybe 80% turn of the steering wheel..

This is my 2k3

Same problem here, only when I turn the wheel to the left at slow speeds. I'm thinking something with the brakes????

If your car has been lowered (or even if it hasnt) this is probably due to your suspension.

Does this happen when you turn both sides or just one?

Just below the springs of your front tires (i think), there should be a little limiter bump that sticks out on each side that ends up hittin a corresponding groove on the inside of the body panel when you turn to an extremity. this prevents you from turning too far (you cant turn any more when the bump hits the groove).

the bump shoudl be covered with a cheap little plastic cap. If this cap falls off or the bump doesnt line up with the groove properly, youll get a loud creaking noise at an extremity. Itll sound like a coathanger scratching a chalkboard or somethin.

If thats the problem, I would raise up the car (youll see what im talkin about) and grease up that groove. I think that should be a good temporary solution. if you can find a cap fo next to nothin, get it.

it should look somethin like this for the right tire:
