Can a 01 handle Mount Washington?

I'm making a trip to Mount washington, New Hampshire for this long weekend and I hear that the climb is very very steep...would it be a good idea to take my 2001 Automatic. I will have 4 people in the car and the trunk ful of luggage... i'm just worried as the website said that you need to have L or 1 if you drive auto...but i dont know if i should be taking my car upthere with too much load on it...suggestions?

They're covering themselves... take your auto and put it in 1/L and you'll be fine. Also, use L/1 on the way down when you need to instead of riding your brakes the whole way.

are you really worried about your car making it up ANY public roadway? cyclists
climb steeper hills on their bicycles.

You'll probably be fine... if you wanna prepare it, use some SeaFoam in the engine to clean it and use premium gas. Hopefully will reduce the chance of knocking under all that load.

At the base, tell the other 3 to get out and carry the luggage up themselves, tell them you'll see them at the top...Im sure they'll understand the importance of your tranny

I've driven up it in an old buick. I'm sure your 01 maxima can make it. The roads really aren't that steep, the way down just heats up your breaks if you don't use your transmission to slow you down.

Please don't put a "This car climbed Mt Washington" bumper sticker on it though. Don't be that guy.

I live in NH and see those things all over the place. My favorite was on an old, POS beat up VW...someone scratched off some words and changed it to:

"This car FELL OFF Mt. Washington"
