its a major job, specially w/o a lift and air tools. Dont let anyone tell u otherwise!
Unless you are ready for a "full" weekend of work dont get into it, specially if u have never done it before (its also a two person job w/o proper tools)

LOL! thanks, but i got to the "first you must remove transmission" part, and
decided to punt. i'll be dropping the car off at the shop in the morning.

$450.00 / 6 month or 6,000 miles warranty. good enough.

I do them in Chicago for 350 :P And I warranty my work. I just posted a big *** post on how to do a clutch on a Maxima. It shouldn't take them more than a hour-2 hours tops to do a clutch on a Maxima.

How many miles do you have on your car? I'm just wondering how much longer mine might last.

SCOPIUM, very good point.

SWIORA, about 80,000. a clutch should probably last longer than that though. could have something to do with me holding it on hills with the clutch and stuff. (i know, i know)

You forget, you just have a "tad" bit o' experience in that area of a car.

The instructions for doing a clutch on that site are of little value unless you ALREADY know what you are doing.

If you can do it in 2 hours .

To qualify what blackbird is saying it could be done in 2 hours IF Whoever did it:
- knows EXACTLY what they are doing on a Maxima;
- is using air tools
- has all the correct tools to do the job;
- has all the correct tools to deal with problems such as: a heavy duty impact wrench to get the damn stuck lower strut bolts off; a puller to get the damn stuck wheel hub off, etc.
- the proper seals for the axles;
- and whatever I haven't encountered yet.

Now, if you are like me and learning how to do it using the service manual and Haynes manual . . . break the gear selector sensor tab pulling it out . . . have to get a stronger impact wrench to get stuck bolts off . . . it is likely you can't finish in a weekend - LOL!

I will say it is fun to learn the job if you have alternative transportation.

Yup 2 hours is possible if you have a lift and a tranny jack. You would also might have to skip some steps like not removing the P-side axle. You would also be moving like the wind with the air tools haha.

350 for labor, I leave it up to ya guys as to what kinda clutch you want in your car. I CAN get you the Nissan clutch cheap, or I would just recomend a ACT clutch and be good for quite a few miles. I myself will destroy a clutch in around 30K miles. And I do NOT slip the clutch at all. I do trannies for a living- just put a tranny into a 3.2TL and chill on the .org durring my lunch break

Blackbird -

Any suggestions on how to get the drivers side wheel hub off the axle if it is being stubborn?

I've tapped/banged the hell out of it (trying not to tear up the threads) - hit it with liquid wrench numerous times but can't get it off. FSM calls for a puller so I guess I could try to rent one, after Frances leaves Florida this week.

When I look closely at it, it appears as if the teeth on the hub are a bit twisted - perhaps from too many hard launches . . . . Passenger side didn't look like that.

...The answer is to get the puller. Of course, like anything I had to get 3 before one worked right. The first, cross threaded; the second was bent; and the third I had to drive all over town to find.
