At first glance the 6th gen's kinda made me gag, but they've grown on me, especially after seeing one in real life (from afar only though
)
Cheers to whoever said make it rear-wheel drive. Its only been like ...what... 20 years since they did that? I think rear-drive's comin' back, as well it should, it'd make the car fun, ever if you do get a little more drivetrain loss.

The 5th Gen is the last Maxima I will ever own...why?
1. Maximas can't hold their value for ****
2. No longer sport what so ever....yeah they have the 3.5 but look how HUGE that car is.
3. Too close in price to the G35...for a few grand more you have a car that holds its value and looks 10x better. Not to mention its more of a status symbol than the MaX.
Just my .02

I think Nissan and Mitsubi**** payed the same people to design their cars- Maxima and Galant look soooo similar. Plus 6th gen is made in the US now, so basically that alone to me makes it a big POS turd. Plus put some nicer suspension on the 5th gen and it will ride nicer than the 6th gen.
Except for the front tooth, the 6th gen looks quite good. In fact, it looks more aggressive than the 5th gen ... if that's the look you like. As to the interior fit and finish, it needs a lot of improvement and sprucing up before it is in the TL's league. I haven't tested the 6th gen Bose, but I know the 5th gen Bose sucks big time, especially the radio. The suspension should be better, given that it now has gotten rid of the stupid rear beam axle. As to speed and acceleration, I don't think it is faster than the 5th gen, given its extra weight. Also, I believe torque steer is more pronounced in the 6th gen.
In all, the 6th gen is not a bad car, the only draw back may be its quality, since it is the first Max made in the U.S. alongside the Altima. However, when you compare the 6th gen with the 04 TL, you can immediately see its shortcoming. And that is why the 6th gen is selling below invoice and the TL is still getting a premium price. Nissan has to learn from its competitiors in order to stay in business and retain its customers.

I think it looks like my butt, which is bad.
But then again...
I said the same thing about the 5th gen when I owned my 97 maxima. I thought the 5th gen looked horrible, then it grew on me, now I think my car is beautiful.

Exactly. I really don't care about the 6th gen but just like ryan said. When the 5th gen came out i thought they were buuuutttt fugly. I always luved the look of the 4th gen max. But after a while the 5th gen max grew on me and i decided to get one. Now i luv my ride but its a little dissapointing that power wise the new altimas can haul a$$. Nissan's selling more altima's than max's so what can u do.
My opinion of the 6th Gen:
First time I saw the car at the 2004 auto show I was stunned with disappointment. Ugly front, increased size, almost slab sided body... What the?? Since then as you see more and more of them, especially here in the NE part of the country, I like it more and more. Think about it. Nissan has turned itself around from Red ink to a very bold, innovative company not afraid to try new looks, ideas. Altima, Murano, Titan even bringing back one of the greatest sports cars know to be affordable... the 350zx! I've had 2 Maxima's the 98 and the 2002SE. My daughter has a 93. My opinion is they are reliable, good looking, powerful and with each generation they improve in some ways and take a step back in others. Hey, thats the way it is. Driven by company owners, economy, design teams, the market, those that make the final decisions. Overall the Maximas are a car you can grow to love from the nice feel of the interior materials to the great engines.
(just remember...for the money). We ain't talkin BMW here. The 6th Gen has the looks, the power and the prestige..........but this time around some of the interior took a step back! Take the good with the bad like everything in life and remember it's only a car.. hee hee.

It's OK. It looks better than the altima (which, while at first I liked it, now looks to me like a plastic piece of crap driving down the road).
There is a good chance I'll never own a 6th gen. I love my 4th and 5th, but they are more similar than dissimilar, and although I'd like to at least have a 5.5, I feel that Nissan hasn't really taken their car anywhere in a decade, besides a few extra horses - many of which are lost with the extra weight, from a performance standpoint.
When the 4th gen came out it was top dog for the import sedans in its price range, but Nissan has allowed themselves to be caught up. You've got the Accord and Mazda 6, both of which aren't all that much slower than the max. I'd like to see them put closer to 300 HP in it, and a RWD. That isn't likely to happen soon though, because it would conflict too much with Infiniti.
It's not so much that the Maxima is disapointing in some ways, but that the G35 is so damn hot. Yeah it's smaller, but I'd take a G35 sedan over a 6th gen any day.

wow you would of thought that maxima owners would hate on the new sh*t. At first I hated the 5gens when they came out, then they grew on me. Same with the 6th gens, they grew on me after a test drive and then a purchase. To each his own. You guys hate. In your forums you talk about top speed and it looks like my 6th gen as gotten faster then most of your 5 gens. Hooking them up changes everything.
Andy, you should have posted pics of your car, thats the only 6th gen on the forum I really like. But... I was going to say that you have to expect it, theres plenty of 4th gen owners that hate the 5th gen, and plenty of 5th gen owners that hate the 6th... Sometimes people just dont like the newer body style. For me, sometimes when I see it on the road, i think it looks awsome, and I stare at it, sometimes when I see one on another day, i think its ugly... so its a love/hate thing for me.

I've hated most Nissans when they first came out. Remember that Frontier with the 4 doors and 4 foot bed? Holy crap, that thing sent me into a fit of rage. Nissan's real good at being a few years ahead (stylistically, whether we like it or not) of other car companies. The only Nissan I remember liking new was the new 5th gen when it came out. Through irony, or fate or whatever, I now own one (though every once in a while I still think I want a 4th gen
) Anyway, enough from me already,

As far as near-luxury FWD/V6 sport sedan in the $30k category goes, I'd be hard pressed to get a 6G Max over a 3G TL. But if I did get one, I'd only get it in a dark color (black, grey or blue) and dump the buckteeth grill in favor of a billet grill.
In comparison with the 5.5G, the ergonomics went from unattractive to outright hideous.
Quick race story: I ran a 6G Maxima on the GS Parkway on the way to Wildwood. It was an SL (4AT) and I could see when I rolled up behind him that he nailed the throttle. I did likewise and gained on him. We did this 3-4 times before I got to some open road and swung around him. After "switching places" he tried to do likewise but, wasnt keeping up the way I'd been. I would imagine (though) that the 5AT SE should fare somewhat better a 4AT SL. $.02

1) RWD vs. FWD
2) You'd be looking at Mount Fuji on your grille after all
3) G sedan rear end looks hideous even with the resedigned lights. It needs a dual exhaust badly too. I'd much rather live with the Max's grille than put up with Infiniti's rear end..
