HKS Installed!

Alright I just installed a HKS rear section yesterday and it's kinda loud. I have a Stillen Y-Pipe and a Stillen Pop Charger and the only reason I purchased the HKS was to fill the hole in the new Stillen Aero Kit. I am now thinking that I should have just welded some tips on the end of the stock muffler and used the money to purchase a 2.25" B-Pipe with a 22" resonator.

I think that I am looking for what everyone else is: a non ricey, non droning, G35 sounding, exhaust system. I have yet to find it and am getting tired of spending money on this quest. Does anyone have any advice?

BTW, the HKS is now for sale at $350.00. It was purchased on Sept 14th, 2004 and installed the same day. I may even take off the Y-pipe and sell it also. Maybe a Cattman would be a better choice for me, however, I have yet to hear one and would hate to spend the money only to have to remove and sell it also.

Maybe I should look into a Cattman. I only wish I could hear someone's setup.

As for the Y-Pipe, it's about 3 weeks old, but the car has been in the shop for two of the weeks getting a Stillen kit installed along with new paint to fix all of those chips. I would like to get at least $300.00 for it. I paid $347.00 plus tax for it. I will cover shipping if it isn't to much, otherwise I will pay for part of the shipping.

I could have told you that HKS exhaust is louder than others.

I have the HKS rear section and it's quiet in my opinion. But then again I don't have a y-pipe either.

Edward, I am glad someone got on here and actually gave a true opinion about a mod. Most people that just purchased a catback or rear section will claim it dosen't sound ricey, doesn't drone, and that it is the best exhaust for the money. It is only a few weeks to a few month after the install that they admit the truth.

Here is the deal with the HKS rear. Below 3k it's low and loud sounding. The sound reminds me of a Chevy S-10 6-banger with an exhaust, which to me sounds loud with no power (like crap). The cabin is droned with the sound also.

Above 3k the sound is great. Throaty and powerful sounding and a lot quieter than when the rpm's are below 3k. There is a hint of G35 sound coming through also. I could live with this. The only problem is that I drive an auto and that damn transmission wants to putt around below 3k. If I had a manual I would leave it on the car however I don't and therefore it must go!

I am thinking before I do this that maybe I should take off the Y-pipe and see how the car runs and sounds. I do it later this afternoon and post tonight.

By the way, My G-Tech 0 to 60 times remain unchanged at around 7.4 with stock tires and 7.8 with 18x8.5's That's the same times I was getting when I was stock. The only advantage is that the car feels like it has a lot more headroom (reserved power).

Need opinion on going back to total stock or adding B-pipe w/22" resoantor and a Cattmnan Muff.

It was new on September 14th. It is now September 16th so I would say that it is two days used. $350 or $375.00 shipped. Includes original receipt w/warranty.

The car has been driven less than 40 miles since installed.

whats the scoop, does it really fit? i want this exhaust really bad and worry its not going to fit in the space

Wow brought up a 4 year old thread!

The HKS fits with the stillen rear. I haven't really seen anything not fit without a little modification anyway

EVO2 ftw, it's a lot of greddy haters on the org but if you get the real thing and not the BBP knockoff for 1/3rd the price from ebay it sounds great to me, i LOVE the greddy sound, especially with my daily commute... cattmans exhaust do sound nice also

That is the route I am looking at taking. I just can't see that it is worth spending all that money for 3-4 hp and a lot more noise. I like having a quiet car.

its doubtful that a muffler will even give you 1 hp. its all for sound. i dont want to "sound" fast and get undue attention.
