2000 valve pinging?

i have 48k on my 2kse auto and i use super unleaded. my car pings under light acceleration and otherwise runs fine, i have an injen intake also. any ideas as to what this may be?? coils have not been replaced but the car does not miss. the car will ping for along time if i stay on the throttle and dont push gas harder or softer.

Me too

I have an 01 5 speed.
It does it with any type of octane.

I've owned the car since new, it always did it.

It happens around 500 to 2800 rpm.

I have never figured it out.

try a different brand of gas for a few tanks. i switched to amoco from shell last year, and the pinging went away. but with amoco the mileage was down. i have been using the new shell v-power and i am getting 21 mph city, and absolutely no pinging. with an a/t 21 is not bad for city. and i drive pretty hard.

try the v-power. if you don't see any difference, switch to something else

I changed my plugs and coils (go for the 2K1 coils and I changed them few weeks back @65K miles -- the new set would go for another 60K I guess and then back to replacing them again....) and the pinging has stopped -- also I am behaving well behind the wheel i.e. not accelerating hard and braking as much as I can, but when you have a slow going vehicle ahead of you one invariably has to accelerate hard.

Can't blame the person for going slow as he pay registration fees as I do -- right!!! ?
