my buddy has a QX4, and he was telling me that if i get the key from courtesyparts, and then have any hardware store cut it, that you can program it just using your ignition, with some procedure....is this true? is he nuts?

Incorrect. you can get a key all you want but you will have to go to the dealer to program it. You can program you own FOB, but not key.

Get one from www.chipkeys.com I got one from there and had dealer program it for 40 bucks (rip off). You have to bring all you keys to them...
