Replacing in cabin micro-filter?

I hate to sound stupid, but does anyone know where the in cabin micro-filter is on a 2003? The maintenance schedule says it is due to be replaced but I can't find anything that tells me where it is located.

And when you buy the filter there is a sheet in the box that shows you how to replace it. More than a PITA than is should be but not that bad. I'm sure that's because this filter was an "add-on" feature like the HID headlights that they retrofitted into an old design. New, Gen 6 Maximas are much easier to replace.

By the way, I got a mailer from Nissan which had a code for picking up the filters for $29 instead of the usual $45 the dealer gets. Did get some hassle from the parts counter when I brought in in. Said that was less than their cost and he had to get OK from the parts manager who was out that day. Came back a week later and they OK'd it. I think what happened is that the mailer says in small print "installation extra" so they intended that you only could get the $29 deal when you picked up the labor.

But the mailer doesn't say this explicitly so the parts manager reluctantly honored the deal. Picked up 2. One for my '03 SE and one for my girlfriend's '02 GLE.

However, I think the deal has expired by now but keep your eyes open.

I'm up for a repleacement, I am on my 2nd set of Micron Filters. There are 2 of them and you need to drop down the glovebox to get em out of the air/heater box. Thanx for the reminder- it will be a part of my 100K mile service I'm doing this week.

I thought about replacing it but cleaning it wasn't that hard. I acknowledge the fact that the new one would work better.

In cabin micro filter

I bought my 2002 used and had 27K miles on it in 1/04. I found out about the in cabin micro filter two months ago and by then, I put on another 7K miles. I read some sites about it and took it apart and sure enough, had some dust, parts of leaves and bugs. I just placed it in some dish washing detergent and warm water and it came out clean. Let it air dry out and placed it back in. I just could see spending between $45-$50 on it. I think the replacements may be in two pieces so that's another reason for not replacing it. I once saw it on Ebay for under $30.

it will just filter the air that is coming into the car and blowing on you.

yea, my 2kse didnt come with them, so when i put them in a couple of months ago i had to vaccuum out a bunch of dirt/dust/rats nest....not really rats nest, but it was sick.

The link with this price list these filters as for the 2004 (Gen 6) Maxima. Not sure but this is probably a different part from those for the Gen 5 Max.

Call a Nissan parts dealer and ask if the Gen5 and Gen6 Maxima have the same micro-filter.
