Yes...usually if you hear a ticking (and it's not normal) it is your oil level...Just park your car on a level surface, pull out the dipstick, start the car for 5 seconds, kill it, put the dipstick back in, check the oil level...if it's low, refill it, and see if the ticking persists.

There was a tread on this like a year ago on 00-01 models. Its something resetting itself and I can't remember what it is....Icy2kSE I think you know what it is. Its normal, and nothing to worry about. But I'm not sure if its the same noise your discribing on your 02-03

Is the sound similar to like a small engine or servo motor. I had the same engine noise for when I would shut my car off too. It was the electrnic motor mount (front one). I spoke to a friend of mine and who works for Nissan and he told me to unplug it. I did so but I need to bring it in to get repaired.
Hope this helps!

sounds like a electric motor mount, if your car is a automatic then it will have those electronic engine mounts. Locate the plug and unplug it, see if it makes a difference, you will not get any check engine lights or anything from doing that. In the last few Nissan TechTalk magazine periodical Nissan dealers get, they had a little blurr in there bout the motor mount buzzing problems.

So what did the TechTalk magazine say specifically about the buzzing problems? Is is truely a problem that needs attention or just an annoyance that can be ignored?

i've had the same buzzing noise coming from the rear driver's side.
finally raised the rear of the car after coming home from work, and it's definitely coming from a module right next to the rear driver's side wheel. i guess it's a module related to the fuel system or braking system. i have no clue what it is yet, but it's definitely not the motor mounts in my case.
