How do I know if my MAF is gone...
it is my understanding that when the maf goes... you have full range rev problems, quick stalls, even crank-and-cut turn offs that seem normal except you engine shuts off. Although i could be wrong, I think you'd have bigger problems than bad gas mileage.
Your car would run really really crappy. Try emptying your trunk and drive "normally". If that doesnt work... have you noticed better mpg in the past? If yes then try a less expensive option than repacing a MAF like spark plugs.
When my MAF blew my car sputtered on cold start and it took a while to settle down. It would barely rev past 2000 and had almost no power but failed to stall. After it got a little warmer (1-2 more minutes) it ran ok at low RPM but had a HUGE power drop at around 4000 RPM. I explained the feeling of the drop in power as me falling forward out of my seat. It was not bearable and with an intake on, it was even worse.
