6spd wheel hop?

I am still relatively new to my 6spd maxima...but recently i got a chance to practice launching this thing...and i'm kind of worried becuz 1st gear seems almost impossible to smoothly take off....i hold my RPMs around 3k and slowly slip the clutch....my RPMs drop a little once the clutch grabs, but at around 4k (when VI kicks in) my car wheel hops somewhat....not to a point where its scary...but i can feel a little....is this normal? I ask this becuz i use to drive a 5spd 4th gen and that thing never wheel hopped (only wheel spin)....

I tried different methods of stepping on the Drive by wire but even with 1/2 throttle or so, when the VI kicks in at 4k, my car wheel hops a little...I can't really go WOT in 1st unless I want some wheel hop..do other 6spd owners get this? is our cars just too powerful to handle? btw i am non HLSD and have aftermarket rims/tires (245/40/18 and lightweight wheels)....well, just wondering if any 6spd owners are in the same boat as me....

DAMN THIS THING IS HARD TO LAUNCH!

Some wheel hop is normal. Try launching at 1200 to 1300 RPM (3000 is way too high)and slip the clutch a little. I don't know if you're lowered, but aftermarket springs will reduce it even more. Stiffer motor mounts help a lot, too.

I'm running 245x40x18 Falken 512's and Maxspeed springs and I get very little hop, at least on flat roads. Uneven or bumpy roads are another story....lots of torque steer and hop.

Blue - thanks for the tip...i'll try launching at 1500RPMs next time....but that seems really really low...i've been driving stick for over 3yrs now and I have never launched a car that low...no matter what kinda car I drove....it just seems too low....what is your clutch/gas method when you launch yer car at 1500RPM?

and yes I am lowered on D2 coilovers set on 36/36 stiffness (max dampening)....I never tried launching on the stock suspension becuz I didn't wanna practice on stock when I knew i was gonna get the D2s later on to practice on....

I ease the clutch out and slip it a small amount at the lower RPM. Check the 1/4 mile forum for more info. Seems that's what most guys do in order to reduce hop and spin and get the best 60' times. If you have sticky tires, you'll hop more than spin at the higher RPM.

I had real bad wheel hop until I changed my motor mounts from stock to Place Racing. They take a little getting used to, since they're so rough, but you'll never have wheel hop again.

How hard is it to change motor mounts? I've got access to power tools and many different sockets, extensions, swivels......heard it only takes like 1hr if u know what your doing....and 2hrs if your a newbie....

naw, i only hop off the line sometimes. After 5+ mph, nothing at all. Could be the HLSD workin'.

If you try to launch a 2k2 Maxima above 2k without slicks you're just asking for a good tire roasting. If you get excessive wheel hop then the HLSD is working perfectly.

After upgrading to better from struts my wheel hop was eliminated. I'm using KONI yellow.

There are ways to launch our car. I'll usually launch at most at about 1200-1500 rpm, but then rev up 1st gear all the way up if im driving aggressive, but i won't rape my tires like i used at first. Sr20den said it, our car won't break traction, and he has HLSD (so does ammi) and they will tell you even with it, there still is a problem with our crappy tires.

I'm going to add the LSD pretty soon, i think maybe it will help a little bit, but there is no way i'm gonna get to dump the clutch in first gear, my tires (good year rsa) simply won't grab the street. It happens now even.

KONI yellow? reeespect. I wish i had konis, they didn't seem to have them when i got my setup. I still don't believe you have no wheel hop though, even with the best struts in the world, your car still has to be feeling it.

If thats the case launch the car at 5000 rpm and please film a video for us to watch : P
