clutch won't depress

aw man.... jumped in my car and started the engine. Pressed on the clutch to start it and it feels a little to soft. Then, I try to go and cant get the car into gear. I don't think my clutch is engaging. I don't think my clutch is bad because it hasn't popped out of gear or is slipping, but maybe the cable popped off. Does anyone validate this theory? Thanks very much.

either a bad clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder. Both are covered under extended warranty or factory warranty....otherwise, they are not particularly hard to DIY...just messy.

If your out of warrenty, the parts are less than $50 and yes, it is a DYI. Check the fluid in your Master cylinder, chances are the thing has leaked and the fluid is gone. I believe IIRC, the fluid you use is DOT 3 brake fluid for it. Pump the clutch pedal a couple times and go out for a drive. You might have to pump the pedal a couple times in the first two days until the pressure gets back to normal.

yeah all the fluid was gone and can't really tell if ther eis a leak cause of all the daym rain (dark). anyways, i couldn't find a DIY on autozone for a 2k max but im thinking that the procedure is the same as a 3rd gen or just in general. I put in some more dot 3 hoping it would work but the pressure only builds a little (reminds me when my master brake cylinder got jacked up).

check the carpet by your feet. That's where mine leaked to when it went bad. Thank God Nissan replaced ALL my floormats under the warranty repairs....

If the slave or the master is just leaking, i'm sure you can drive it for alittle longer. Just work the pedal for awhile and the pedal should get back to normal. You might want to bleed the system also and follow the line that goes from the master to the slave to check for leaks. In the 3rd gen, the slave is located right in front/right of the engine block, i'm not sure if the 5th gen is the same, but Im sure it should be in that general area.
