Wheel Locks

Hey whats up guys,

New to the forum. I have a 2003 Maxima SE fully loaded. Last night I caught a couple kids trying to steal the headlights and rims....my front wheels had a couple wheel nuts off. I know the 04's and up maxima have the rims being stolen, but I had no idea we had to worry about the wheels as well as the lights. Any ways my question is what are the best wheel locks out there ? Yes I have NISSAN wheel locks but they had the key to them my guess all wheels locks from nissan have the same key ? I heard that "gorilla" or "gueralla" wheels locks being the best but I can't find a place that sells them. Also I lent the car to my g/f and she curbed one of the rims. I have titanium rims (w/e there called) where can I get it fixed ?

Sorry to hear the trouble your having around your place. I thought New York was bad. Anyway, I put wheel locks on mine even though I don't need them. I bought them because they came in a set and are longer lug nuts for me to take them off easier. Buy the gorilla ones if you can and becareful on how tight you make them because they are easy to strip.

I have curb rash on my wheels as well but I wouldn't get them fixed because it costs more to fix them to buying new ones.

OK, so all wheel locks are prety much not good then ? How about I buy 5 diff. wheel lock makers, will the design of each lock be diff. for each key ? And miami has the same if not more problems with headlights being stolen as NY, especially on the porches down here, you will literally see a porsche, maxima, or TL, without lights everyday.

Wheel locks with spinning sleeves

You want either the White Knight or Gorilla locks with the external spinning sleeves. Its a little more work for a thief to take off, it still can be done, as no wheel lock is 100% theftproof, however this style will slow them down a bit longer.

One bad thing about buying 5 different sets is that if you happen to lose a key, you will be screwed. 5 different sets will definitely slow down the thieves.

By the way, on those Gorilla locks - they're not foolproof. A local tire shop lost the key i gave them while replacing a tire. Informed them about it and guess what?

"Oh, that's a standard Gorilla key, let me get you one of ours instead - we've got tons of those".

The McGard ones all have uniquely generated keys, but that doesn't make a difference anyways. A slightly smaller socket hammered onto the nut will take almost any wheel lock off.

12mm x 1.25 is what you want.

Do you know if I buy multiple sets of those, each set will have a unique key?

Good Ebay experience with wheel locks

Joey,

Never saw them on a website before, except for EBAY. I am sure they are out there somewhere, I just haven't had time to search for them.

If you want them I would definitely get them from that EBAY seller I listed above. His service was very good.

I bought 3 sets of wheel locks, don't know the brand name though. We have 5 bolts,

I put wheel locks on 3 of them which form a triangle. Not 100% protection, but might

take those crook some time to break it.

I run two different brands/types of lug locks on my Max and on my Turbo Supra. I think it is a very good idea to run with more than one lug lock-type per wheel. I know it won't stop a determined thief, but it is going to slow him down enough that he may just say fu<k it and move on.

I have 2 sets of wheel locks on my car. But I know thats useless cause I knew a car thief that took wheels for a living (not no more). He told me him and his boys used to go around with a pair of vice grips and a tree branch/milk crate to steal wheels. The tree branch was used to lift the car while his boyz stole the wheels. Pretty funny back in the day.

acording to their chart, we are 12mm x 1.50...so which is it or it does not make a difference

you could just buy a car cover with a lock. That way the kids cannot rip out you lights. Easy on. Easy off.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......I assume that you mean 'all it takes is a razor blade' to cut through a car cover. I am aware of the fact that a car cover will not thwart all would be thieves. If somebody wants to steal something, he/she will find a way. The car cover would, however, deter the casual thief who may discover the idea of ripping out the lights only after seeing the car uncovered.

I got a great idea: don't get wheel locks and fully insure your max. That way when the hoodlums come back and leave your max on blocks, you can take your $550 per rim and $400 per tire (dealer price) that you get from insurance and buy a new set of something better for the tune of $3,600, give or take. That'll get you Micheline Pilot Sports, bada$$ rims, and Gorilla lug nuts...

Seriously, if you get locking lugs make sure you trash 'em as soon as they start to show wear. I made the mistake of waiting and had to get NTB to get 'em off. In the process they scratched my rim (not bad). Couldn't complain though, they did it for free.
