Talk me into buying this Maxima

I'm currently driving a 1997 Honda Prelude 5sp, bone stock, but I'm always looking for something better, and I've always been a big maxima fan, well here's what I found

2001 Maxima SE
54K miles
5speed
Cloth
Sunroof
All power, alloys, etc
Silver/Pewter, looks perfect in pictures

Price= $10,900

Talk me into buying this, I am very close to pulling the trigger, this is a great deal?(Obviously offer less)

Mileage is good. If the car is anywhere nearby, give it a whirl. Price looks pretty good considering the mileage. I doubt you can go much lower. Maybe a flat 10k at most. Anything more would be pushing it.

Okay, first off, performance: My friend has a 93 prelude that he swapped a newer H22 into, which is the same engine (I'm pretty sure) that's in the one you've got. The motor has internal work and is running very high compression, and he's done all kinds of crap to it. I have an 02 Maxima with an intake and I can smoke his butt all over the place.

Second: Class. When you look at a prelude, you see a regular old Honda. When you look at a Nissan, you think, that is a classy, sporty, hot ride.

Third: Space. My Maxima is my only car, so I have to haul crap and people all the time, which it does very well. You can't haul much crap or people in a Prelude.

Fourth: Nissan or Honda? You've got to go with the Nissan for sure

As for the price being a good deal, I really don't know, but the Maxima is a far superior car in my opinion. I actually considered a prelude, but I am VERY glad I bought the Maxima.

Hope this helps.

'Lude will smoke the Maxima in the handling department. And bad condition DE-K, with MAF or coil problems will not be all that fast- especially with the heavy 17" wheels. Your not Serbans friend from FL ? I just got a call today bout some guy who wants to get a 00 SE 5spd Max that fits that desription- from FL too. I told him what you need to do in order to get high 13s from a DE-K 5spd. Get rid of them fuggly heavy 17 OEM wheels for something light weight for sure, it costs around 10WHP vs GXE with 15" steel wheels (I put down 198WHP stock on my GXE). Torque is not the best on a 3.0L, so the lighter the wheels the better and faster the car. Most people on this forum don't get that and use even heavier wheels than stock, only few people go out and get light weight wheels on this forum. For comparison my wider Enkei RPO1s weigh 13lbs less a piece vs stock 17" Nissan wheels- which is a huge diff.

I went from a stick accord to a stick 2k2 Maxima. I'm biased, and I've loved Maximas since my 2k1 a while back, but I will concede that one big difference I noticed was turning radius - things I could do easy in my Accord I can't do so well in the Max. The stick's also a bit notchier than Hondas shifters, but overall the fun-to-drive factor is much higher in the Maxima than it ever was in the Accord. The amenities are nicer too, I think, but I went from an LX accord to a fully loaded Maxima, so I may not be the best judge of that.

The price is right though.

Absolutely. Listen to this man! He's right when he says that the most overlooked performance mod are lightweight rims.

I don't believe you would regret the switch, I have a 2001 SE with 39,000 mi, outside of a few minor things my MAX is the best car I have ever owned. as far as price 10,900 dosn't seem to bad, in my area same year goes for 9,500 but location plays a part. as for the miles, do you know if they are highway or town? find out if you can, highway are easier on the car. good luck on your decision.
