Need Spare Key

Hi,

My used max only came with one key and remote. At the moment, i need to get a spare key before next weekend when i am due for Viper 791 install by Don.

i live in Baltimore area. Dealerships want over $100 to make a key - even the one from whom i bought the car - Security Nissan...

so, what options do i have... any latest experiences with locksmiths in my area...

thanks - Noela

The problem is that your key has an immobilizer chip in it that needs to be programmed. That could be done without dealership assistance, but I have no idea where you can get a blank key outside of a dealership with that chip in it.

You can do it yourself. Someone posted a write-up about how to do it in the 5.5 gens if you can do a search. The dealership I worked at charged $40 to do the programming which was a rip-off.

you mean programming the remote - which i know we can do ourselves -- but they key requires a special machine, insn't that the case?

I heard the same thing Noela. If anyone knows how to program the actual key, please let me know. I only have one key and three remotes!

Oops, I am so sorry this is correct. I was thinking the remote when writing about the key programming. That's what I get for trying to do work stuff and typing on the forum. The key needs one of them Consult machines to program. I apologize again!

i also need a spare key, im also planning on buying a spare key from ebay, however, along with programming the key, dont you have to get the key cut as well? can any locksmith do the cutting as well or can only the dealer do it? im also planning on getting an additional remote off ebay....i heard that i can program that myself too pretty easily....that true? and lastly, i have a problem where my key goes inside my car door, but doesnt turn it to lock or unlock the car....anyone ever had the same problem? whats the resolution?
