How to on painting OEM grill...
So I have deciced I want to paint the factory grill on my '00 to match the car (black). I do not like the aftermarket grilles and rather just paint mine.
Does anyone have a how to? Do I need take off the bumper? Does anyone recommend another color? Thx all

Not a dumb idea at all. I think it looks pretty good......
But it's a lot easier to do on a 2k2. I just removed the grille, washed with Dawn, primed and painted with Super Black spray (had it matched at a local paint store that specializes in auto finishes) and reinstalled it.
Sorry I can't help with your 2000 but I think you're correct....you'll need to remove the bumper to get the grille out.

I'm doing it too... but mine will be majestic blue... I'll probably leave the emblem the way it is for now though.... .

I did a ghetto job on mine, and used chrome trim black out tape from Advance Auto Parts. I did not tape the entire grille, just the chrome trim around the perimiter of the grille. (i.e., looks like an SE grille now). You can not tell from just looking down at it. However, if you get REAL close, you can tell it is not factory. A good option if you don't want to paint anything. (PS: I did the same thing on my chrome door handles....a very cheap and quick way to get rid of those ugly chrome door handles) (Pics in sig taken before this was done)

...it's gotta be dumb. Mine is in the shop now for an accident and I'm payin' a little on top to get the grill and engine cover done at the same time. I'll post pics of both probably Friday night!
Edit: uh, maybe not. They're replacing my bumper now. May or may not be done Friday now. I MISS MY MAXIMA!!! I've been w/out for a week and a half now. My rental is an '04 Grand ***** w/out the supercharger...

Mine is black to match the body also. I did it myself using Krylon Fusion paint (WalMart 10 bucks) because it doesn't require any prepping, just clean it and spray it. Make sure with this paint that you use plenty of clear or it will chip and you will have to start over (I know this from experience). But it turned out really good. I think it is a great choice. I don't like any of the aftermarket grilles either.
