terrible gas mileage combined with my tranny weirdness
My trip odometer is at about 160, and i am one line UNDER half a tank. my DTE is at 120. this is all city driving, and i usually drive with a decent heavy foot, accelerating to around 4k from a stoplight. i normally use 93 octane fuel, cuz no one has 91, and the only thing i havent checked is my air filter, or used any fuel injector cleaner or anything like that. this is all pretty much rural driving, on 2 lane highways with stop lights and suburban roads. my car is idling at what SEEMS to be about 500 rpms when im stopped at a light, but i couldnt really do the math with the spacing on the tach, its just about at the second small hash mark.
so is this all because of my driving style? it seemed before i had the crankshaft position recall done i was getting about 300 or so miles to the tank, and even my DTE indicated that, but now it seems it never goes above 280 or so. any ideas guys? or should i bring this up to nissan when i show them my trans nonsense?

my trans i mentioned in another thread. when i shift from D to third and back to D, 3 stays lit up and the car wont shift back to D/4. im gonna have nissan check it out when i go for my first free oil change. my intake is shipping now, so im gonna install that, maybe my air filter is very dirty too

700 +/-50 is normal for your 2k. He has a 2k2, so 700 would NOT be normal for his 3.5. What he idles at sounds about right, a problem would be if he was experiencing rough idle spd, etc.
As far as gas mileage, dang I would be so lucky if I could squeeze 300 miles out of a tank, and I don't have a leadfoot at all. Now my gas mileage (all-city btw) went up to over 20 mpg because I don't use the A/C as much in the winter months. But otherwise before I was getting 16.7 mpg

i guess its my heavy foot, combined with the fact that i love the torque on the VQ enough still that i keep steppin on the gas
since its time to start savin money, i guess i better start drivin like a grandpa or just eating less to pay for food, haha.

drive like grandpa until the Civic punk rolls up next to you, then ya show him VQ-power! And, if you want to feel like youre getting good mileage, go for a long drive, then say "holy crap, I got 400miles on this tank of gas, sweet!"
(ps. stupid question, do you have the 3.0L or the 3.5L?)
(ps ps -- sorry for the stupid useless, post, but i think that youre getting decent mileage, though I'm no expert)

ok, im just a moron. somehow i was reading the RPM guage wrong...i dont know what i was thinkin, but yeah, its idling at about 750. also yesterday when i filled my tank, my DTE said 327 (went up to 334 with highway driving), the past few times it was saying 289, so well see what happens now.

Your car is fine, its the heavy foot and city driving that is killing your milage. I know that driving around NYC with all the stop and go traffic and up to 45min traffic jams i usually only get around 17mpg and thats with 70%city and 30%highway.
