Engine Dies when auto is in N/P and wants to die in D at idle.
Can't explain it... can't search for it.
but, I'm not sure what was the gremlin behind it, the MAF sensor or the VIAS.
Here's the problem though:
Car is warmed up. I'll leave the car in Park or Neutral and a minute later, it dies.
When in drive, at idle, the engine kinda stumbles... wanting to die.
and I still have no power over 5000rpm (most likely VIAS related).
any ideas? the car has 82,000miles on it, it's a 2000 SE. I don't think TSBs (free fix) will cover a car with that many miles... correct?

Also, if it is a VIAS issue, how do you fix it?
edit: just so it doesn't seem like i'm inept... I saw the FAQ-U thread. it listed the stall occuring with manuals.
I'm guessing it might be different due to me having an Auto.

hey! finally someone who seems to have similar symptoms... kinda happy, but sad at the same time. i personally have no clue what's causing my problems. fine when it's a cold start. but when warm, the engine starts and then it idles lower and lower until it peters out. but once i give it some gas it stays on fine. doesn't die out like your's at stops n stuff.
i've already talked to daveb and replaced my crank sensor, no change. only other thing he i talked about was maybe cleaning out my tb and aav. other than that, i wouldn't know where else to look. i changed out my maf a couple years ago with the newer version, so i wouldn't think that's it.
if it turns out to be the vias, how much are you looking at to replace it? difficult to do?
i posted about this a few monthes ago. not too many replies then either.

try cleaning the throttle body.. maybe a new airfilter or even a new MAF.. the question is do the fumes smell like gas .. cause then you arnt getting enough air in the engine and those would be logical fixes for the problem. other wise i wouldnt know
