If you still have a Bose headunit...

Replace it immediately!

Seriously.. I replaced my stock Bose headunit with an Alpine 9833 today, and the sound, even with the stock Bose speakers, is AMAZING. It is much more crisp, more clear, MUCH louder than stock. Even the subwoofer seemed to have benefited from the upgrade. I am very sorry that I waited 1.5 years to upgrade, but it was worth every penny.

I just added a Sub to my Bose..I am very happy with the Bose thus far....And with the sub..it kicks bootay.

I think the Bose is fine for my needs. I'd like something that sounds better, but I also do not want to mess up the dash/console area with an aftermaket stereo.

I'll probably add dyna-mat to the rear deck and anything else I can do to tighten up the physical aspects of the speakers, but I will just keep the stock Bose unit unless a replacement that fits perfectly is introduced..

So does the alpine head unit fit flush with the rest of the dash my Bose head unit died after 3 years of service (early 2002 in 2001) it was my second head unit... I have been listening to the radio and it is driving me nuts not being able to listen to CDs in a car that I paid close to 30K for.

Heh, replacing the stock BOSE system was the first "mod" I did to my car. By far still my favorite mod. (I'm not using the stock bose speakers though...)

They will soon.

I have the PAC SWI-X, but ran out of time and energy to install it.

The unit is flush with the dash.

the bose HU must really stink.....
i installed a amd and subwoofer in my trunk, since the bose sub was way too weak.......
now my door speakers are too weak for my sub, plus this "hi-tolow" crap between my bose HU and my amd + sub.....not good, bass is extremelly high, but not clear, way too much rattling.

i'm plaaning to get a pioneer 7600 mp3 headunit, i hope this one does the trick, since i can't afford to buy door speakers >.<

Yes an No....

Bose speakers and sub are I believe 1.8 ohm.

Aftermarket radios work at 4ohm.

To have an aftermarket radio with bose you will need to do a rewire.

Not true. Just get an adapter from the OEM harness to RCAs. This is what Don did for me when I got my Eclipse HU. The speakers are now gone and replaced with Rainbows, couldn't be happier!!

you can do that too.

But that is ghetto rigging it.

Either Re-Wire it and bypass bose amp or get the PAC adaptor

If you want to replace the stock Bose headunit but KEEP the Bose amps and speakers use the PAC ROEM-NIS2.

If you want to KEEP the Bose headunit and just add an amp use the AOEM-NIS2. This will give your RCA outs from the headunit. It is NOT a hi to low converter.

I did not use any converters. I will be changing speakers within a few months, so if they burn out, I don't care. I would not waste any money on converters if you are planning on getting aftermarket speakers in the near future.

Igor - you wasted $100 for a newer style display.

The REAL advantage to the Bose:

The main advantage of Bose vs. anything else is that NOBODY WILL STEAL IT. I've had 4 CD head units stolen out of cars at anywhere from parking lots to out front of my house......Bose is good enough, and I never have to worry about someone jacking it. I mean, who steals OEM stereos?

Yeah, but I am not going to let that deter me from getting a new headunit.

well.....here in queens, i got my 92' mercury sable oem radio stolen!
may i add the radio had no cd and the tape player had a tape stuck in there for 3 months?

kinda funny when i think about it now, cuz i was soooo pissed at having my window broken in the middle of winter.
i could care less about that stereo, but yes these ghetto A$$holes in ny will steal anything if they get the chance.

if you change the speakers and keep the stock bose head unit, will the left side speakers stop cutting out? or is a new HU required!?!?
