2001 ignition coils in 2000 Maxima ???

To make it quick, even if its not the same part number (2Y000-2Y005 vs 2Y001-2Y006), will it work/fit good in the long run?

--------------------------------------------------------

If you have some time to spare, here is the whole story:

- SES lights on
- Dealer wants 50$ to retrieve code...
- Retrieve code free at local mechanic -> P1320
- After reading the topics on maxima.org, I'm sure my problem is the coils.
- Can the dealer do it for free on the Goodwill program? No. I bought the car used and never went to the dealer since... Im not one of their "good" clients.
- Some users on the forum said they bought coils for 35$CAN... ummm interesting (since I live in Montreal, QC).
- Call a couple of dealers - 99$ each coils
- Call Nissan 417 in Ottawa where one of the users here got them for 35$... now they're 109$.
- Emailed another user to know where he bought his... and he gave me feedback (thanks alot!)
- Call his dealer (Southside Nissan in Vancouver) - in Nov 2003 they were 35$, they are 99$ now...

Looks like prices have gone up while $CAN is going up....

Now I have two more choices.
1- I want to look in local scrapyards... if there's 2001 Maximas or 2000 Maximas with new coils, I could get them for a pocket of change (hence my question regarding 2001 ignition coils in 2000 maxima).
2- I may order from Dave B as a last resort (but I fear the taxes at the customs since the shipping will cross the border).

any thoughts?

i am almost positive that i remember dave b saying that they are different part number, however it would not be a problem using a 2k1 coil in a 2k. my only warning is that if you go with salvage to make sure you get the updated coils with a gray dot on them. if you find a wrecked 2k, it could have the old coils and you could be in the same hassle in a short amount of time.

Hope this helps

I have a 2000 SE. When I bought the car w/ 36K miles in May '03 the day after I bought the car, the check engine light came on and I took it back to the dealer. This is how I became aquinted with the notorious coil problem. Earlier this month, it happened again, and I took it back to the dealership after I had the codes checked at Autozone, so I knew what the problem was. Told them the problem, and they said that Nissan is aware of the situation. They fixed mine at no cost. I did however purchase the care Nissan Certified and also purchased extended warranty. These may have covered it.

However, you may be interested to note that the service mgr. (could be a lie) told me that the new coils that they put on are a new model and I should not have the problem any more. Here are the model numbers:

In 03, they used 3 2Y001 and 3 2Y006
This month, they used 3 2Y000 and 3 2Y007.

I am assuming the 2Y007 are the new model, since I havent seen them referenced before. Hope this helps, and if anyone else has some feedback, feel free to reply, I am new here! Happy Holidays!

I am certain you can use a 2001 coil in your 2000 maxima. You may still be running a risk, because I have seen 2001 coils fail still. Anyway, if you do get 2000 coils, be sure they have the blue/grey dot on them otherwise you'll most likley find yourself in the same position soon.

thanks a lot all.

if anyone else wanted confirmation... I called Dave B and he told me its ok to put the 2k1 coils in the 2k max.

however, as stated by someone earlier, le original 2k1 are not as reliable as the upgraded-silver-dotted-2k ones.

Will buy from DaveB if I do not find 'good' used coils.

As Dave you'd say, "yall have a guday".
