noise when turning

I have a 2000 5spd maxima with tein-s and kyb shocks. I have recently been hearing a moderate rubbing sound when i turn the steering wheel only when the car is moving like 5-10 mph or actually making a bigger radius turn on the steering wheel.
Also, I am hearing a slight clap noise, as if a plastic or something is hitting against each other in the back of the car, along with a very slight squeaking noise.
Any help would be much appreciated in trying to solve this problem.

thanks!

well if the clap was comming from up front i would say it is a bad CV or Universal joint. check your bushings if they are warn that could explain everything.

so, is the sound from turning the steering wheel most likely from a bushing? if so, where can i find one and how do i install it?

thanks!

As you will see throughout this forum. I have posted about this subject a billion times. It can be one of the following: CV Joints, Struts, Sway Bar Links, Lower Ball Joints, or Wheel Bearing. However, how you determine any of them is up to you. I just turn the radio up to deal with this problem. Answer this though. When you turn left, do you hear the noise on the right side of the car?

yeah, when i turn left i hear it on the right side of the car. This only occurs when im parking and need to make a big turn or doing a U-turn.
Also, if the sound IS coming from the cv joint, will this hurt the car in any way?

Your problem sounds the same as everyone else. However, from what I have been hearing its not the CV Joints. Its most likely the Sway Bar End Links. Whatever you do, don't let any dealerships tell you its a strut. I haven't solved my problem yet. I have just been getting the run around from dealerships on the problem. If I were you I would take it to shop, see what they say the problem is. If they tell you its something other than the Sway Bar End Links, tell them to look at the Sway Bar End Links and tell them thats what you think it is. If you don't suggest it they are just going to start replacing random parts at your cost. Thats what I am going to do, hopefully this weekend. Either way, if you fix this, please return to the forum or email me and let me know what it was... Good Luck...

sway bar bushings. i have the same problem.

i had sears automotive diagnose (i work at sears and they were dead so i brought the car over) the problem. they let me in the back and they put the car on the lift and were recreating the problem right on the lift. anyway, there was too much play with the sway bar, since the bushings were bad.

the sway bar bushings kit is a dealer item which is like $25. two days delivered to sears, although your local nissan parts dept should have it in stock. sears quoted me this installed plus an alignment (which i need since I ran into a curb and caused this problem) for like a buck twenty. i will get around to it in a couple weeks.

So, there are rubber bushing on the FRONT sway bar that need replaced?

If so, I *THINK* Energy Suspesion has some coming out.

Anyone have any pictures of what these look like?
