Longevity of drive belts

The manual says they need to be replaced at 60K mi (?). How long did yours last what does it cost to replace them with OEM belts?

130k and counting. looking brand new.. now if you drive in hot regions (florida) or get the winter salt and sand that might kill them way earlier.

I just had mine changed at 66k. The car was in on a repair warranty and they called me and said that my belts were worn and cracking, $99.00 to replace. I gave it to them since they fixed the car on a 100% customer satisfaction policy. Original repair warranty expired 12mo/12k (trans gasket).

I just had the two belts (alternator and power steering oil pump) changed a few weeks ago along with the PCV and thermostat assembly. I was at about 106K miles. $100.00 for the whole job which included parts (I bought the PCV myself from Nissan). Not bad.

Peace.

Where does it say your supposed to replace the belts? I think it just says to inspect them and check the belt tension.

I had to change mine at only 40K. They started squealing when cold or when wet.

HAH, funny you should ask...

I just recently had the drive belts, and spark plugs changed at a local shop that my father-in-law knew the owner. A month later, driving home from work I hear a snap, and tink tink tink down the interstate. I pull over, and have the car hauled to the local nissan dealership. Dealer says the pulley was gone. I asked if this could be related to the other shop over-under tightening the belts? They said it was very possible. Atleast for the 2ND repair, some of it was covered by the extended warranty. I dont think I'll get a dime out of the first shop..........BASTIDS!!!

Ya it was a real good idea to inform Nissan that some Mom & Pop shop just happened to be working on your car a month ago I am surprised they covered any of the work.

every 60K they should be atleast inspected.

I'm at 112 on the original I think (got the car at 96k but dont think many repairs were done till I bought the car).

going to change them very soon (its making loud noises with the timing chain, makes me sound like a diseal)

First of all, I told them this AFTER I KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, and AFTER I HAD SETTLED WITH THEM. Secondly, you can take your car to whomever you choose.

Chill.......All I was getting at was that it probably wasent wise to mention anything to Nissan about having anyone work on your car besides them. Especialy if you have a extended warrenty. I dont ever bring my car to Nissan for work I use a small place myself . But knowing Nissan for over 11 years you dont ever give them an out. You give them one lttle opening or excuse to deny work & they will take it.

I don't think the dealer really cares whether you take it somewhere else or not. When they perform warranty work, they get paid by nissan. Which is where they usually make a lot of their money. Nissan is not going to check every little thing they do. Sometimes they give you a hassle only because they don't want nissan to come back at them saying it should not have been covered under warranty. If they give you a hassle, just take it to a different dealer.

I can see your point, I guess that would give Nissan some wiggle room to weasel out of it. However, my warranty says I can go anywhere I want, and they'll pay.

Mine were loud as hell during the winter. So I bought the belts at the local stealership and had my mechanic put them in. I did it at around 68000.
